Dinagyang 2012: Day 1

Today, we would be going to Ilo-Ilo for the Dinagyang. We were supposed to be three taking the Cebu Pacific flight. One was not able to make it due to family emergency.

Was at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 3 by 5PM, about 2 hours before my flight.

Was updated by the rest of the group already at Ilo-Ilo. Learned that there's heavy traffic that I decided to eat an early dinner at the airport.

Flight is 15 minutes delayed. Actually, it was about an hour since air traffic is heavy.

Took a Light and Glory Taxi (mobile 0939-9152900) to the Grand Tower Suites (e-mail grandtowersuites@yahoo.com, landline +6333-3351806), where we stayed last time.

Met first the group to discuss our "strategy" before calling it in.

Learned last night that my friend has succumbed to his disease. Felt really bad. And yesterday is the Feast of the Sto. Nino. Did pray during the anticipated Mass last Saturday, if he won't make it, Sto. Nino would be there to welcome him.

Arranged masses for the repose of his soul. Since he is in the province, we won't be able to visit him. Our prayers are with him.

Today would be the first general assembly of our office's camera club and I would be the speaker for the Basic Photography Workshop and Time Lapse Photography seminar.

Attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Italianni's.

Last Thursday, we learned that a friend, Relly Rosero, had a cardiac arrest and in a respiratory machine.

This morning, received an SMS informing us that he is already 50/50 and it is being decided if the respirator will be removed or not.

Hair-pampering day.

Before leaving home, reserved a seat for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Since I finished earlier than expected, cancelled my reservation and watched an earlier schedule.

The Sherlock Holmes I visualize while reading the Arthur Conan Doyle novel is different from the way Robert Downey, Jr. portrays Sherlock Holmes. The great detective meets his match with Professor James Moriarty, a rare intellectual equal. In the guise of anarchy, the Professor sets in motion several terrorist acts in order to benefit his newly acquired businesses. Didn't know Sherlock Holmes has a brother. The character is portrayed by the actor from the TV series Bones, the British psychiatrist.

Metro Manila Film Festival entries are still being shown in the cinemas. Already watched the movies I wanted to watch. Guess I just have to chill it while waiting for the start of the anticipated Mass. The movie I wanted to watch (Sherlock Holmes) will open tomorrow.

Decided to register at Sureseats so I can reserve my tickets. Hmmm... Reservation for Sherlock Holmes is for Greenbelt. I prefer Glorietta.

Attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Super Bowl of China.

Yesterday, strolled Glorietta as most of their stores are on sale until January 15, 2012. Was inside Geox, buying a pair of shoes on sale when shouts where heard outside. Security in civilian clothes and security guards were running after a man who shoplifted an item from Cinderella. Really?! Inside Glorietta? How does he expect not to be caught?

Time Lapse Photography

With my intervalometer, decided to try my hand at time lapse photography.

Using my Canon G10, set the camera to manual mode, manual focus, 1 second shutter speed, 2 seconds interval and 120 images. When converting it to video, used 12fps instead of 24fps as it would be too fast.

My subject is my nephew's shih tzu, Thor.

Eve of 2012

In preparation in ushering the new year, went to the mall with Manong to buy fruits and cake for tonight. Must have been adopted from the Chinese, the dinner table should have twelve (12) different kinds of round fruits on it when the year changes, for good luck and prosperity. After buying the items and ate lunch, asked Manong to bring the purchases at home. Plan to watch another movie included in the Metro Manila Film Festival.

The movie is Shake, Rattle and Roll 13. It is a movie series that is always included in the Metro Manila Film Festival. I believe, I have not missed one. Always consisting of three episodes, with one episode in a horror-comedy genre. Have always expected that the horror-comedy episode would carry the movie, like that in the past. But not in this case. The first episode is titled "Tamawo". Bigbo, a young boy who moved in the provinces with his blind mother, abusive stepfather and step-baby (don't know the gender of the baby.. hehehe!), encounters a group of monsters that are after something that was stolen from them. The second episode is "Parola", which is about two best friends who enters an abandoned lighthouse; thus, unwittingly unleashing the spirits of rival witches. And the third episode is "Rain, Rain Go Away". A couple experiences paranormal activities relating to water.

After, proceeded home.

While waiting for 12 midnight, my niece and I sang ourselves hoarse. Thanks to Magic Sing. Played Uno Stacko and Monopoly Deal Card Game.

Our neighbors, who adapted Chinese practice regarding new year, set-off firecrackers infront of their houses in the belief that the noise wards off bad luck. I guess we also benefit from that? Never have a thing about firecrackers. Instead of buying firecrackers, you can use the money for other things. c",)

Enchanted Kingdom

The usual reunion of my nieces and nephews would be today. We would be going to Enchanted Kingdom, as usual. Good thing, they have now the EKstreme Student Cheer promo for students. Admission is PhP380.00 instead of PhP500.00, as long as they show their student IDs.

There were lots of people that we have to skip some rides because of the long queue. Also, Space Shuttle, Rialto and Flying Fiesta were under maintenance.

Inspite of it, the group enjoyed ourselves because it is more about the company. c",)

Makati Christmas Decors

Last working day of the year, decided to take photos of the Christmas decorations on Makati buildings with my Canon G10 while on my way home.

In preparation for the new year, a portion of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue were closed. At the corner, a stage is being erected where a program will be held as they usher in new year. Many people are walking, taking photos and enjoying the street empty of traffic.

Christmas Day

Time for my annual treat to may angels, Nana and Lyn. It would be a movie marathon of the films included in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Our first movie is Segunda Mano, starring Angelica Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes and Kris Aquino. Started out with married Angelica in a car fighting with her boyfriend. It is there where the murder of Angelica would take place and that strip of road being haunted by Angelica's ghost. Angelica is married to Dingdong and they have daughter. Kris' ghost is her sister who supposedly drowned during her sister's birthday party held at a beach. Then, Dingdong and Kris' path met. And that's when the stories' twists and turns begins.

Next movie is Panday 2. Since we already watched the first "book" in the previous MMFF, logical to watch the second "book". There's action, fantasy, comedy (which is Benjie Paras' mettle). Looks like a third "book" is in the works with a new enemy.

And finally, dinner. Treated them at Chili's so that they can try my favorite: Classic Nachos.

Christmas Eve

Day before Christmas. Wanted to watch one of the movies included in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) but eventually decided against it.

Just waited for the food I ordered from Amber's, which would be our Christmas dinner. I don't think my Nana would be able to do much cooking; thus, decided to order food instead.

Attended the Christmas Mass at Sta. Clara de Montefalco Parish Church. Was there before 9PM but there were already a lot of people. Good thing, I brought my own chair! The Mass started around 10PM.

It would be a Christmas reunion lunch with friends from Equitable Bank. When we joined the bank, that's when we met and became friends.

Lunch is at People's Palace in Greenbelt. It is a Thai restaurant. The lunch is fun with dear friends.

After office, I would be meeting my friend and her daughter. She recently bought a dSLR and a good way to learn the basics is to shoot at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, which is currently showing a light and sound show. Besides, the security guards would be more understanding of people with camera and tripod then.

Vincent's Place

Received an SMS from the Tilak Hettige. He invited us for dinner to a street restaurant (carinderia) which, according to him, serves very good meal. It is our version of a Christmas mini-reunion.

The owner of Vincent's Place. Masked the eyes because I don't feel like posting images of family and friends in the internet for security... long story.

It is Vincent's Place, located near the Malacanang area. From the pictures displayed on the restaurant's wall, famous people have eaten and dined there, including Manny Pacquiao, Richard Gomez, Joker Arroyo, Teddy Locsin, etc. Their "bulalo" was even featured in the TV show of Jessica Soho.

Tilak is right, it is the best "kambingan" in town!

What Happened?

Thought that it would just be a usual working day for me. Then, two ladies came to my desk and asked if I know any relatives in Metro Manila of a friend. They said he's in the clinic. I could not visit him because I have cough and colds, and I might infect him. Since I don't know any, asked the help of two friends to get the information. These two really know how to investigate. (smile) But I'm getting ahead...

Going back to the office after lunch, received a call from one of them and told me that we should visit him in the clinic. When she explained to me how he was found and brought to the clinic, met up with her and we both went to the clinic. Was I surprised when I saw him. He's have dramatic weight loss... he's so thin. Even if the room is not cold, he was feeling chilly. Spent sometime with him, talking to the doctor in the clinic, arranging ways when he leaves the office's clinic (he can't stay in the clinic beyond 5PM). The doctor cannot get any information from him; thus, we don't know his sickness.

Almost all who visited him, went back to the clinic around 5PM. Our HR already have an idea and they called us for a meeting. The doctor suggested that those who have cough/colds to take antibiotic, those who don't have to take vitamin C. Have a chest x-ray, and do so again after three (3) months. Oh! We also put on alcohol and sprayed Lysol on our clothes and things, to be sure we won't be spreading it.

After office, the one who called me earlier told me to drop by her floor before I go. I thought she just wants to join me when I go to the mall. At the ground floor, it was either Makati Medical Center or Patient's First. Hehehe! Thus, we walked our way to Makati Medical Center and proceeded to the Emergency Room. It is not really an emergency but we managed to have ourselves checked-up by a doctor and a chest x-ray.

Note to myself: Remember to do another chest x-ray in March 2012.

Web Design Fundamentals

Thus, decided to take the Web Design Fundamentals seminar of Mr. Datu Arellano at the Philippine Center for Creative Imaging (PCCI).

The Tilak Hettige also had his class today at PCCI. Dropped by to greet him first before going to my class.

Seminar is a-OK for Datu explains clearly and passionate, reflecting his confidence on what he's sharing.

Puso sa Puso Charity Christmas Party 2011

It is my camera cub's Christmas party. But decided to attend the Charity Christmas Party 2011 arranged by the Puso sa Puso Foundation for poor kids. This time, the party will be held at Benigno Aquino Jr. Elementary School, Quezon City. It would be for the benefit of 1,000 poor kids of Payatas and nearby areas.

It is the fourth charity Christmas Party arranged by the Puso sa Puso Foundation, thanks to the donation of generous hearts.

The Road

The title makes it seem a foreign film. Far from it. Learned of it when already seated inside the cinema. LOL

But first, before watching the film, started ticking of items in my Christmas list. Usually before December arrives, I am already finished with my Christmas gifts. Not now. Since it is a holiday, decided to do my Christmas shopping.

First stop is at ToysRUs at Greenbelt 5. Good thing, some items are still on sale. They had a big sale at Glorietta's Activity Center the previous week and I was not able to buy then.

Had lunch at Mongolian Quick Stop in Food Choices. Bought more items at Glorietta (actually, had them ordered because I want it personalized) then proceeded to Glorietta 5 for National Bookstore and Bench.

Since almost half of those in my list has been scratched off, it's time for a movie. Yes!

The Road is a horror, mystery, suspense film by Yam Laranas. Three teenagers mysteriously disappeared after traveling an abandoned road with the intent of practicing how to drive. The investigation reveals the horrific story of the road and the spirit the lingers there.

The film is split into three parts. Starting with the present (year 2008), followed by the event in year 1998, then to a much earlier date. Each part is pretty solid, with the three stories telling a much larger story.

After the movie, stopped by Esprit (which is also on sale) before proceeding home.

This time, lecture would be in Tender Bobs at Glorietta 2.

Good thing, they provided hand-outs (aside from the video). Hehehe!

Definitely enjoyable, even the second time around.

After the anticipated Mass, ate at Mongolian Quick Stop in Food Choices. While on the way home, spotted the Buff. Decided to buy one (actually toying with the idea for some time). Can use it when I take photos, the way I use my scarf. (wink)

Canon Photomarathon 2011

Woke up really early for the Canon Photomarathon 2011. Have to be at Philippine Trade Training Center by 6:30AM. Registration is from 5:00AM to 7:30AM.

I requested Manong to drive for me and borrowed my brother's AUV. Left the house around 6:00AM.

Unlike the previous photo marathons, there would only be two (2) themes. Good decision. Considering the number of participants (2,700+ photographers), it would take some time to upload the photo entries. Thus, we would be given 3 1/2 hours to shoot and upload our photo. We were told to set our camera's date to December 12, 2012.

San Carlos: Day 4

Last day of our trip. We would be going to Victorias City to check out the Victoria Milling Company. Another photo opportunity related to "sugar".

But before proceeding, tried again the cakes at Calea.

Inside the Victoria Milling Company is the Church of the Angry Christ. The mural is painted by the artist Alfonso Ossorio, a scion of the Ossorio family who owed the mill.

Had lunch there and stayed for a while for some shoot.

We would be taking the 1720H Cebu Pacific flight to Manila, which was delayed an hour. While at the departure area, saw a rainbow...

San Carlos: Day 3

Because of the confusion regarding the reservation of our accommodation, we checked-out from Mom's Small Hotel and Restaurant, brought our things to another location. We then had lunch near the place where the Pinta Flores Festival parade will pass. Parade starts at 1PM.

Although the final judging would be at the plaza around 5PM, decided not to go and shoot there. Good decision, too. As soon as we entered the van to go back to the clubhouse, it rained. We, then, decided to go back to Bacolod instead of staying the night at San Carlos. Had our early dinner at the clubhouse and we are on our way.

Stayed at Saltimboca, same place where we stayed when we attended the Masskara last year. Had dinner at Chicken Deli.

San Carlos: Day 2

Day 2 of the pre-nuptial shoots.

Ate breakfast at Mom's Small Hotel and Restaurant before proceeding to Mambukal. We will stop on the way if there are nice views/ sceneries for the pre-nuptial shoot.

One stop is a place where rice terraces are in the background. We also stopped where sugarcane farmers are loading their products to a truck. The Tilak Hettige wanted to take photos related to "sugar". Also pre-nup shoot was done here.

Final stop is at Mambukal Resort. We also had our lunch here. The resort have seven (7) waterfalls. People are not allowed to swim in waterfalls 1 to 3. We would be taking photos by the first waterfall. On the side, the bride-to-be told us not to drink water there. She said the place is enchanted. She witnessed when a spirit entered one of her companions who drank the water at the waterfall.

We picked-up three of my camera club members who followed to San Carlos today to attend the Pinta Flores.

On the way back to our place, we stopped by the area where there are pine trees. A shoot was also done here.

Had dinner at the Clubhouse and went back Mom's. The group separated on their activities that night. Our Inner Vision group went to an "ukay-ukay" then had a round of drinks as we chat our way through the night.

San Carlos: Day 1

Would be going to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental for the Pinta Flores. But first, join in a pre-nuptial shoot of a friend/officemate.

Took the 0905H flight of Cebu Pacific to Bacolod with the group, including the Tilak Hettige and Chito Cleofas, the lead photographer for the event.

Upon touchdown at the New Bacolod-Silay Airport, went to Kapamilya Grill for lunch, called by the locals as mini-Bob's. (Bob's Cafe and Restaurant is a a popular restaurant in Bacolod.) Tastes good and price is definitely affordable.

Proceeded to Calea for dessert. A must place to go to for desserts when you go to Bacolod. Try out the blueberry cheesecake, mud pie ice cream cake, oreo cheesecake. You can't go wrong with any of the cakes they offer. Enjoyed chatting while waiting for the bride-to-be to be made-up.

Our first stop for the pre-nuptial shoots is The Ruins.

After, we took the 2 to 3 hours trip to San Carlos. We would be staying at Mom's Small Hotel and Restaurant. Before checking-in, went to the Clubhouse for dinner. Checked-in and went around San Carlos to look for places where we can shoot the following day. Tried the People's Park. Last stop is at 9-11 Restaurant for a round of drinks and bonding.

Definitely, prices here are affordable. One of the group commented, if he would retire and be able to "stretch" his savings, he'll retire at San Carlos.

Puss in Boots

(Writing this at Food Choices while waiting for my movie to start.)

Woke up with back pain. First time that I experienced pain while trying to stand up and even walk. I do experience back pain but it is tolerable. Last Thursday, went to our office's clinic and the doctor changed the medicine I take for my back pain. She prescribed a stronger medicine because my back pain is accompanied by headache. From Methycobal to Arcoxia. For my tender breasts which I've been experiencing for two weeks now, she changed my vitamin E from Myra to Zyme or Squibb. Seems effective since there's less discomfort now. Maybe, the turmeric in my diet also helped.

She also asked to have my eyes checked. Good thing already scheduled to have one that day, too.

It took sometime but the pain is almost gone that I can have my weekly dose of movie.

Before Puss in Boots met Shrek, a hero who became an outlaw sets off for an adventure which he and his childhood friend, Humpty Dumpty, has been dreaming of. As expected, the movie mashes up different fairy tales and nursery rhymes character--Jack and Jill, Jack and the Beanstalk. Witty and charming.

Attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Super Bowl.

Winnie the Pooh

Fourth of the five-day mandatory leave. Decided to go to the mall and watch a movie. My checlist:

1) Load wallet for LoadXtreme (make a depoisit).

2) Watch Winnie the Pooh

From the creation of A.A. Milne, the movie offers timeless charm and wit. If only life is that simple. (smiles) Hungry Winnie the Pooh, in search for food, led him to a series of adventures (and misadventures). What is touching (although not surprising) is when Winnie the Pooh put his friend Eeyore first than his growling stomach.

Today, I would be treating my people for lunch at Cabalen. It's an eat-all-you-can buffet. Definitely, full. (Burp!)

After, decided to buy another router. I don't think I can take the slow speed. Hayyy... Thus, bought a Netgear N300 Wireless Router. Now, it met my expectation. Yey!

a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante

My small Linksys router (forgot the model but 4 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch in size) breathed its last. Thus, decided to buy a new one after my belated birthday treat/lunch to my friends at a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante in Glorietta. Had fun with their company. Got me a Royce chocolates as gift. Thanks!

I like Linksys and would have bought one. The Linksys router I bought for my brother which is about 5+ years ago is still alive and kicking. And it's open 24x7. But I am looking for a router with a small footprint. Thus, it's either the same size or it has to be standing.

Thus, bought me a Belkin N300 Wireless N Router. Definitely fast if connecting via wifi. But through LAN, it's half the speed of my DSL!!! Odd because LAN speed should be faster. (sad)

Dream House

My movie for the week is Dream House. Great cast. The movie started with a successful publisher relocating with his family to a little quaint house, only to learn that their new house has a dark history. The movie started with the twist, ending with the truth. From the trailers, you can already come deduce the story.

After, attended the anticipated Mass. Then treated my friends at Chili's for a belated birthday treat. Of course, always in the menu would be classic nachos. (wink)

Attended our office's camera club workshop on Photoshop Fundamentals. It is a half-day activity.

After, was dropped off at Glorietta, had lunch at Food Choices and watched What's Your Number?. A woman unlucky in love asks the help of her neighbor to go find her 20 ex-boyfriends in hope to rekindle the relationship, thinking her relationship history would prevent her from finding her true love. A comedy, romance film which the lead characters (Anna Farris and Chris Evans) makes the movie watchable and funny.

The Sorcerer and The White Snake

Today is my camera club's monthly. Those whose birthday falls in that month brings food for the meeting as treat. Ordered pancit malabon for the meeting and for the house because it is my niece's birthday. Also bought pichi-pichi for the house.

Don't feel like staying at the meeting (the weather is gloomy and I know it would be hard for me to take a ride home when it's raining). Thus, left and proceeded to Glorietta after dropping off the pancit malabon and my photo entry for "Seeing Double".

Had my second movie for this weekend. The Sorcerer and The White Snake is a fantasy, action movie about a sorcerer-monk faces the sister snake demons as he tries to uphold the law that prohibits humans and demons from having relations. The movie tries to adapt the original Chinese films on supernatural action. Although there are action, the movie also presents true love.

Photowalk Hanna

Today is the scheduled photowalk at the Quezon Memorial Circle with the Tilak Hettige as the photowalk leader. Woke up at 4AM to prepare for the walk. Would pick-up Tilak around 5:30AM before proceeding the The Circle.

Meeting place is at the Bacolod Chicken Inasal (near East Avenue gate) from 6:00AM to 6:30AM for the registration. Inspite of the threats of Typhoon Quiel (Nalgae), many photowalkers arrived. We would be having our brunch at Bacolod Chicken Inasal after the photowalk.

I would say, the Quezon Memorial Circle, Philippines leg of the Scott Kelby's 4th Annual Worldwide Photowalk is a success. Here are some of the photos of the walk.

Dropped off Tilak at his house then proceeded to the wake of the mother of my friend and former officemate from Philippine Airlines (PAL). Afterwhich, went to the office to pick-up my keys and lock my cabinet (forgot it yesterday) then have the driver drop me off at Glorietta.

Since there is still time, decided to watch a movie. Hanna is an action, thriller movie about a teenage girl raised from birth in an icy, harsh environment to be an assassin. The film opens with the girl taking out a deer with a bow and arrow. One can wonder how she can be so unfeeling. Although there's lots of action (and definitely there is), I liked the part where the film explored how the girl felt the isolation as she tries to understand the world as she accomplishes her "mission".

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante.

Johnny English, Reborn

My movie weekend is Johnny English, Reborn. The movie opened last week; but, it is only today I was able to watch it. After his boo-boo from his last mission, Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) spent years with the Buddhist monks. He was called back because of a possible assassination against the Chinese premier. The informant would only talk to Johnny English. Watching movies like these, you should not expect much but just enjoy yourselves. Even the kids watching were laughing their heart out. It's like watching Mr. Bean, but this time, he talks. c",)

Wallet

The zipper of my Fossil wallet is broken. My wallet have endured much abuse. LOL

Thus, during lunch time, headed to The Landmark to buy a replacement. Went to the Fossil stall but can't seem to find a big wallet that would suit my needs. Always had a Fossil wallet.

Found one in the likes of Seiko, ang wallet na maswerte (translation: the lucky wallet). Hehe!

Now, I remember the cold medicine--Nafarin.

Exhibit Opening

Did not report for work. Severe headache and running nose. Decided to rest for the opening of our Cartimar Exhibit at the Philippine Center for Creative Imaging (PCCI). Can't seem to remember the cold medicine that works for me...

Before proceeding to PCCI, went to Max's at Waltermart to buy lumpiang shanghai to add to the food to be served during the opening.

Was the first to arrive at the venue. Given that there are thirteen (13) photographers participating in the exhibit, only five (5) came with their family and friends. Tsk! Tsk! Oh, well...

Nevertheless, the opening is a success! c",)

Set-Up

Today's the schedule for Tilak Hettige's Documentary Photography Workshop to set-up the exhibit on Cartimar for Batch 1 and Batch 2 of said workshop. Meet-up is around 10AM. Some of the Batch 1 students notified that they cannot come (I belong to Batch 1). No word from Batch 2 students. I can only come after lunch to help in the set-up, and already informed our teacher Tilak on this. Guess who just came that day to assist? ME!!!!

After, went to Glorietta to attend the anticipated Mass. We had dinner at Italianni's.

Contagion

Woke up from the alarm of my clock; but, slept again. Supposed to meet at the gas station in the corner of EDSA and McKinley around 8am with the Tilak Hettige to check-out the Quezon Memorial Circle, the venue for the coming Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk. Somehow, woke up at 7am. Feels like The Flash when I ate my breakfast, showered, dressed-up. Was at the gas station exactly 8am.

It was fun just wandering around The Circle. Took notes, arranged for the meeting place, and talked to the Administration to ensure the Photowalk will go without a hitch.

Was dropped off at Glorietta, where I took my lunch at the Food Choices' Mongolian Quick-Stop. Then, watched my weekend movie, Contagion.

Stuck by a deadly outbreak of a mysterious disease, a group of doctors is deployed by the Center of Disease Control to deal with the outbreak. This is not so much of how the outbreak began or how to cure the disease but more on the people affected by the virus and the people involved to contain the disease. It shows the human frailty's and their strengths. The movie have an impressive group of actors.

World famous race car Lightning McQueen and his goofy bestfriend, Mater, travels across the world to compete in the world grand prix. While McQueen races, Mater is caught up in the case of international espionage. It is a movie about friendship. Some says it is Mater's movie. Me thinks it is McMissilie' movie. Hehehe!

Fifth Final Destination

Decided to push thru with the idea I have been toying for a week... start a business with little capital (to have a small risk) while having a passive income. Got my kit.

After, watched my weekend movie while having my lunch inside the cinema. The movie is the Final Destination 5, a suspense/thriller which works on the idea that you cannot cheat Death. From the previous installments, as I recall, the death of survivors cycles until all is dead. But in this case, if the survivor kills another, he/she gets the time to live the person he killed. I guess, the Final Destination series works on knowing who will be killed next and it would be truly gruesome. :P

After, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at New Bombay. Was able to recruit one retailer. (wink)

Attended our office's camera club's workshop on strobist. Seminar in the morning and hands-on in the afternoon. I am one of the leaders as the participants will be assigned in one of the four groups. The participants would try to simulate how the photo/s were taken by analyzing it and setting-up the lights. I am the one who took the photos they would try to simulate, with my niece as the model.

After, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Chili's as a birthday treat of my friend. Yes!!!!

Already had my movie for this week; thus, just chilling it at the mall with the gloomy weather brought by Typhoon Kabayan. It was a good decision to give the photos I promise to my "subject" for the Documentary Photography yesterday. At least, now, I don't have to travel through the downpour.

Renewed my Laking National, National Bookstore's loyalty card; paid my bills; lunch of Mongolian bowl at Foood Choices' Mongolian Quick Stop. Will spend time at Food Choices while waiting for the anticipated Mass reading my photography book.

Captain America

Did not report for work today because of my tooth. Went to my dentist. I thought he would just replace the filling. He said that it is no longer possible. Thus, opted for a root canal instead of having my tooth removed.

After, went to the SM Mall of Asia to pick-up from National Bookstore the photography book I reserved. Then, went to Guadalupe to give a copy of the photo/s I promised to my "subject" in my Documentary Photography class under the Tilak Hettige.

Since I am already out of the house, decided to have my weekly movie. It is Captain America: The First Avenger. A young, idealistic Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) dream of enlisting to fight the World War II; but, found to be too small and weak to be enlisted. But his tenacity and courage lands him in a secret experiment which turned him into America's first and only Super Soldier. The movie is very engaging. There's action and the humor injected is so natural. Me thinks there would be a part two... c",)

The Ward

Took a taxi to pick-up the items I reserved. Told the taxi driver to wait for me. When I came back, the taxi is no longer around! Really felt bad because I have not yet paid my fare. I do hope the driver will have a good day inspite of my boo-boo... :(

The movie for this week is John Carpenter's The Ward. A troubled woman was brought to a psychiatric hospital in hopes of helping her. What faced her is a violent and angry ghost. The concept is similar to the movie Identity. While Identity is mystery-thriller, The Ward is horror-mystery-thriller. Where Identity works within a motel, The Ward is at a psychiatric ward.

Instant Photo Shoot

As scheduled, after office, arranged several light set-up at home in order to take several images to be used in the activity of our office's camera club this August. All the set-up uses two light source (electronic flash). Since my "model" is busy in her studies, have a stand-in while arranging the lights.

The plan was for the participants would randomly choose one image, do the set-up and capture a similar image. The participants themselves would be the "model".

My other niece who arrived late from office is my next model for the theme "Seeing Double"... Hehehe!

Guadalupe Hallows

Decided to continue with the assignment under the Tilak Hettige's Documentary Photography class. He wanted an "ending" to my series of photos. Thus, took a "Madonna and child" image of my "subject" and her son.

Because I was able to finish early, decided to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 in 3D. The "rumor" is true, the movie is great!

That was a good decision to split the last book of the Harry Potter series to two. Never tires watching Harry Potter movies, ditto reading the books. The same way I would not tire of watching the Indiana Jones movies.

Given this is the first week of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2, decided would pass it up for next week. There would surely be a looonnnnnnggggggggg queue. Aside from selling movie tickets weeks earlier, through word-of-mouth, the movie got rave reviews.

Chasing Light at Pagbilao, Quezon

It's been raining for a week; but, rain or shine or thunderstorm, the Chasing Light workshop with Canon Ambassadors Edwin Martinez and Jay Jallorina will push thru.

We would be leaving Manila for Pagbilao, Quezon on Saturday, June 25, 5am. Meeting place is at Paseo de Magallanes

Our prayers may have been heard, upon arriving at Pagbilao, the weather is good. We were able to shoot sunset at Lucena (without the sun... LOL). But at least, we were able to try out the lessons taught to us that day.

Sunday, June 26, we leave the Ouan's Worth Farm and Resort at 4am to go to Pagbilao to try our hand on sunrise shots.

By 4:30am. we were wading through knee-deep water to be able to reach a small beach where we would be able to shoot the mangroves and the sunrise. Going back to our ride, the water is already leg-deep. Sure feels like were from National Geographic. LOL

After the shoot, there were more lectures. We left Lucena around 5PM.

Green Lantern

It would be my birthday treat to the June celebrants--four of them. Our usual meeting place is at the second floor of the SM Mall of Asia's (MOA) main hall. Birthday lunch is at Burgoo. Timing, too, that is is Father's day. The Father's get's a free soup. One of us got one. And the birthday celebrants? They were given each an ice cream with a candle on it as the Burgoo staff sang a happy birthday song.

After, we watched a movie--Green Lantern--as we have a kid with us. A test pilot was given a mystical green ring by a dying alien. With it is the responsibility to protect the universe from powerful cosmic threats--he automatically becomes a member of an intergalactic police force. The movie is definitely for kids. c",)

Super 8

From the title, you would think that Super 8 is about eight superheroes in tight jeans, able to jump tall buildings or fly. (Super 8 is actually a motion picture film format released in 1965 by Eastman Kodak.) Far from it... or is it? These young kids were actually heroes by being themselves. Love the film! Today would be my "assignment" day.

Went to Guadalupe to interview the guard and take photos as suggested by the Tilak Hettige for my assignment in his class. Was at the place around 8:30AM. Will have to go back again by 3PM for it is the time he would be ending his shift. Oh! It is his birthday the following day; thus, gave him a roll/cake as my gift and token.

Plus is that I was able to interview one of those flagging a taxi for customers for tips.

I promised many I would be giving them a copy of their pictures. Will go back next weekend to do just that. c",)

Kung Fu Panda, Too

It would be our third meeting for Tilak Hettige's Documentary Photography: Introduction to Photojournalism.

Before proceeding to class, went to my assignment to get a "feel" of things. Was able to interview a security guard. Now, that would be the angle I would be working on... Guadalupe through the eyes of the guard.

After, proceeded to Glorietta to watch Kung Fu Panda 2. The Dragon Warrior with the Furious Five is out to protect karate. In order to overcome the threat, Po has to confront his past in order to gain the strength to defeat the evil. Definitely fun!

Cartimar

Second day of the Documentary Photography workshop under the Tilak Hettige.

Meeting time at Philippine Center for Creative Imaging (PCCI) is 7:30am. We would be proceeding to Cartimar to "document" it. Our Thursday meeting, we were already given assignment of what to shoot. I am to take establishing shots and the crowd.

Left Cartimar around 11:00am, bringing with us various stories/ experiences as we try to "capture" our assignments.

Back to PCCI, we had ten (10) of our images printed, a lecture, watched a sci-fi film of still images, La Jetee, which I downloaded for Tilak, and scanned/ planned/ analyzed/ conceptualized the Cartimar images that would be included in our exhibit. Although some images passed his taste, Tilak was not happy. He asked the class to go back to Cartimar and shoot some more.

We were also given assignments individually. I am assigned to go to Guadalupe. And... have some images shown the following day of our individual assignments as a start-up for our Sunday morning class.

On Stranger Tides

Decided to go to the mall to have the photos needed tomorrow printed. A good excuse to have my weekly movie... Hehehe!

While waiting for the prints, watched Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides. Love it! Just because Johnny Depp is in the movie. He never disappoints. The other casts also held their own. Three groups are in search of the fountain of youth. One led by Barbossa for England, Blackbeard with Angelica and Jack Sparrow (who never have the intention to look for the fountain of youth in the first place), and the Spaniards. All have their own reasons for doing the journey. Did not realize the real purpose of the Spaniards, but it is noble.

After, picked-up the photos and pizza then proceeded home.

Photography Lighting Seminar with Basic Photography

Today would be our studio shoot under the Ken Go's Photography Lighting Seminar with Basic Photography. The seminar started last Tuesday after office, then Thursday. Our last day would be on Monday where there would be a critic session. Just on day one, already learned a lot as Ken gave lots of tips. He is able to make the sessions a fun, learning experience.

But first, went to Cuneta Astrodome to pick-up our company's sportsfest shirt. Forgot I have a shoot this morning, I registered that I'll be attending the sportsfest; thus, the shirt and food.

Dropped the items at home, picked-up my gear and proceeded to Ken Go's studio.

The group was divided into 10am and 3pm session. I am part of the 10am studio shoot session. We finished around 3pm.

After, proceeded to Glorietta to attend the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Pizza Hut Bistro.

Cuyab Tradition

My yearly summer treat to my "angels" would finally push thru today.

Even after arriving home around 12:30 a.m., woke up around 4:30 a.m. in order to leave the house to buy the food we will bring for our mini-excursion. Went to The Aristocrat in Malate, Manila for the food. With the food in tow, proceeded home to pick-up the group to be on our way to Cuyab Hot Springs in Laguna

Had our breakfast stop-over at McDonald's along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Upon arriving at Cuyab, rented a hut and left the group to buy the famous buko pie of The Original. Task/s done, now I can swim.

It's a bliss..

Left Cuyab around 2:00 p.m. to avoid traffic. Have Manong to drop me off at Glorietta.

My movie for the week is Priest, an action, horror, thriller film. It is man versus vampires. After the war between man and vampires (where man, with the help of the priests, won). The movie trying to make an alternative reality, me thinks that it is "stabbing" the Catholic Church as an institution.

Wawa On The Go

Did not originally planned to join our office camera club's summer photo shoot at the Wawa Dam in Montalban. If I have to go there using the public transport system with my camera, lenses, tripod, etc., never dream of it. Didn't realize that somebody made sure I'll have a ride. Now, I have to go. In the end, I invited the Tilak Hettige to join us.

Met my officemate at Glorietta 4 around 6:45 a.m., picked up Tilak around 7:00 a.m., and we're on our way. We made a breakfast stop-over at Jollibee.

No wonder Tilak is a great photographer and have the "eye", our trek to where the other camera club members are, he already captured wonderful images. He made a short talk on photography to the group.

A little before lunchtime, we trekked back to our cars to leave.

Had lunch at Glorietta and proceeded home to drop my gear, shower and pick-up the items for our "morphed" photo booth. Two camera club members would be covering an officemate's event, an idea "germinated" from the photo booth concept, making use of my Canon Selphy printer. But this tme, there's a different niche we would be focusing on.

Our new concept seemed a "hit". Manong picked me up around 12 midnight.

Flores de Mayo sa MOA 2011

It is our camera club's monthly meeting. Would just drop by to submit my entries for "Humor" and proceed to the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to capture images of the "Flores de Mayo". Supposedly, the activity should start around 2PM. Unlikely...

There would be a programme at MOA's Music Hall as the couturier and the sagalas are introduced. Decided to stay at Bo's Cafe while waiting for the start. Besides, the judges would also be staying at Bo's Cafe. Our cue that we should be moving is when they leave the cafe. Ms. Tourism-International is also one of the judges.

So, when did it start? Around 5:30PM.

Thor in 3D

Due to time constraint, am back to my usual lunch-while-watching-a-movie.

Had a Burger King Whopper Jr. meal with cheese to-go and proceeded to the cinema showing Thor (in 3D).

Banished to Earth without his godly powers for igniting an ancient war, Thor has to come to the aid of humans as a villain from his world wreaks havoc. There's action, action, lots of action, a little comedy, a family drama... making a solid film. Forgot, there's romance, too! c",)

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at the Indian restaurant at Glorietta.

No more tradition.

Usually, on Easter Sunday, I treat my "angels" for a swim at Cuyab Hot Spring. Now, plans of others affected what would have been a "tradition".

So, went to St. John Bosco Parish Church to attend the Easter Mass, where we had the renewal of Baptismal vows.

After, went to Ayala Center. Dropped by The Landmark to buy an envelope to put in my entries. Went to LBC to have my entries for the Aliwan Fiesta Photo Competition delivered. Bought a movie ticket and had lunch at Food Choices.

The movie is Beastly, a fantasy, horror(?), romance, modern-day Beauty and the Beast. A rich popular guy pays the price for playing a practical joke on one of his classmates. Curse was placed on him, making him ugly. To break the curse, he must find true love and prove that love with a kiss. Forgot what scene I got teary-eyed. Hehe!

Then, had White Hat for dessert before proceeding home with a Pizza Hut Super Supreme pizza.

Was not able to attend the anticipated Mass yesterday because I joined the Aliwan Fiesta. I already asked Manong to buy me palaspas so that I can bring it to Mass.

My alarm clock did not turn on. When I woke up, I saw it beside me. Must have slept while setting the alarm. Hehe! I must really be tired. In a speed of light, I ate breakfast, dressed-up and left the house. Was planning to attend the Mass at Glorietta (which I usually do for anticipated Mass), but due to time. went to St. John Bosco Parish Church instead.

After, went to Glorietta for my weekend movie. First, ate mongolian bowl of Mongolian Quick-Stop. For dessert, I think I'll have White Hat's Cobbler's Hat.

Left the office for a few minutes to give the results to my doctor. While waiting, a Chinese woman who is also waiting at the reception approached me and asked that I help her interpret her results. Seems she can't wait for the doctor's diagnosis. Even have to lend her my Samsung Galaxy Tablet to read about "inflammation"! :O

Left the office for a few minutes to go to Makati Medical Center to pick-up the result of my sonomammography. Findings state:

"Distinct hypoechoic masses with suggestively benign sonographic features, bilateral. Clinical correlation and short-term follow-up sonography after 6 monthz suggested to monitor stability. Simple cysts, bilateral.

"BIRADS Category 3 -- Probably Benign Finding: Short Interval Follow-up Suggested"

Would be at the Makati Medical Center almost the whole day to take the tests asked by my doctor. Woke up really early as I still have to get a referral from my HMO, Maxicare. I already scheduled an appointment with the Breast Clinic and the Delivery Room.

I would be taking sonomammography. While taking the test, took note of the remarks written by the doctor: hypoechoic, cyst, cluster cyst. Will have to check the internet..

Will get the result of my sonomammography on.Thursday.

My next test is in the afternoon, thus, took my lunch at Tokyo, Tokyo.

Had my transrectal at exactly 2:30pm (my scheduled appointment). Also got the result immediately, which is:

Then, proceeded to Fully Booked at Greenbelt 5 to check if I can get the photography book whose review I read last Friday. Else, I have to go to Powerbooks to do a special order. Lucky me, Fully Booked have the book! (Fully Booked also take special orders; but, I already have a record at Powerbooks.)

Of course, since it is Monday, bought an upsized soft yogurt at Yo Swirls at half the price. (wink)

The movie is Ghost Ship, a horror movie about passengers of storm-struck yacht who hitched a ride on a deserted ship. Now, they become participants of a deadly game that will keep them running for their lives. This is a ghost ship without ghost. They have to go through over and over again the same events, which may change somewhat but would end the same. Maybe, the concept was patterned after another horror movie, 1408, even Source Code.

Rio Photowalk

Woke up early because I have to be at the American Cemetery before 9am. It would be our office's camera club April activity--a photowalk. The aim of the photowalk is for the members to have a feel on composition.

Before the start of the walk, I gave a mini-lecture on filters. Then, they were assigned to take photos using lines for composition, i.e. leading lines, curve/ S-curve, diagonal, horizontal, vertical. Added framing in their "assignment".

With me is my niece, who is practicing her skills in photography.

Left the group early (for my niece still has to review for her exams). But first, we had lunch at a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante in Glorietta. My niece proceeded home, I stayed behind to have my weekly movie fix. Hehe!

The movie is Rio, an animated, adventure, comedy film about a domesticated blue macaw from Minnesotta who has to go to Rio de Janeiro to meet the only female blue macaw to ensure his breed will continue. But once there, poachers kidnap the rare birds. The two must work together and face their fears to escape. There were lots of kids in the theater and you can hear them enjoying the movie and laughing--even the kids-at-heart. c",)

My first weekend activity is to go to a dentist. Already made an appointment with Dr. Jay Catipon for 11am. This would be my first time going to him and would say I had a nice experience. I am not afraid of dentists (for some people are). For those in fear of dentists, Dr. Jay can ease those worries away.

Then, proceeded to Glorietta for my movie fix. Bought ticket for the 2:25pm show, have my photos developed, lunch at Mongolian Quickstop and wait for the start of the movie.

Watched Source Code, an action, sci-fi, thriller movie about a decorated airman sent to live out the last eight minutes of a man on a commuter train that's about to be bombed. His mission is to relive the incident while investigating who the bomber is to prevent a second major catastrophe. Makes you think, not only about the case being investigated but also about the airman who has to relive the incident several times to get his answers.

Richel gave more tips on the business of wedding photography. He also critiqued the shots we took yesterday, while showing how to improve those shots using Adobe Photoshop actions and plug-ins. He also shared about lay-outing the wedding album.

Our pilgrimage chaplain is Fr. Andy de Guzman.

There are three buses, named Joy, Grace and Thanksgiving. Our group is called "Joy".

On our way to the first Church, we prayed the Pilgrim's Prayer.

"Heavenly Father, we thank You as we come together in Your Name to be with the community of pilgrims to share Your reconciliation, peach an dlove with others in the Lenten Pilgrimage.

"Prepare our hearts and minds that we may be worthy to receive God's gifts and favors today. Remind us always that this pilgrimage is a spiritual journey with a purpose and not merely a sightseeing trip.

"Help us to practice the virtue of patience for whatever discomforts and difficulties that may arise. Grant us the spirit of obedience to be one with others and to participate fervently in all the activities.

"May our visit to various churches foster personal spiritual growth with a joyful hope to return in our respective parishes inspire, enlightened and transformed.

"May God protect us and keep us in His loving care. May Jesus of Calvary and of Emmaus walk with us. May the Spirit give us clarity of mind, strength of heart and a sure foot as we all travel today.

"All these we ask through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen."

We have stopover at Petron gas station along South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Our first church is St. Francis Xavier and Nuestra Senora de Escalera at Nasugbo where we celebrated the Eucharist. We prayed the first and second station of the Cross as well as venerated the relic of St. Francis Xavier.

"Since Nasugbu was formerly a part of Balayan, the Christianization of the place coincided with that of its mother parish, as early as th sixteenth century.

"The parish of Nasugbu was canonically erected in 1852. A big church made of stone with nipa roof was constructed and was dedicated to the patron sint, St. Francis Xavier. His image was enshrined in the church retablo, together with the image of Nuestra Senora de la Escalera. In 1873, the roof was afterwards replaced with tiles, but an earthquake damaged it heavily in the same year, prompting the parish priest to change it with galvanized iron sheets. The parish church, located in the eastern part of the town, lasted only until 1896, because the Spaniards burned it during the Spanish-Filipino war, when they retook the town from the Katipuneros. A massacre of Filipino rebels by the Spanish forces took place in the site during that year. The church in ruins was abandoned and the place was later called Lumang Bayan. In 1899, after the revolution, the town was transferred to where it is now. Padre Leocardo Dimalig, the parish priest during the revolution and after it, led the construction of a new church made of bamboo and nipa near the marketplace. However, in 1900, the provisional church was razed to the ground. Father Mariano Ilagan built a new church of much stronger materials. It lasted until 1959, when it was demolished to give way to the construction of a bigger church of concrete structures, during the term of Father Ambrosio Castillo.

"Because of the increasing population of Nasugbu, the parish priest, Father Benjamin Percano, in 1996, together with some parishioners, planned the construction of a big church. The one built in 1959 was demolished. However, Father Percano died during his incumbency. Monsignor Alberto Boongaling continued the project but, in 2004, he was replaced by Monsignor Alfredo Madlangbayan, who continued and finally finished this large and beautiful church inaugurated in 2007."

Fr. Andy guided us on our reflection by focusing on the life of the patron saint of the church we visited. For St. Francis Xavier, it is "live and spread the Word of God". We were also challenged (given an "assignment") to practice in our daily lives to spread His Word.

Second stop is at the Parish of St. John the Baptist at Lian.

"The Franciscans evangelized the area in 1580. During that time, the Augustinians turned over Balayan to the Franciscans, and Lian, as a visita, was administered from Balayan. Then, the Jesuits took over the territory in 1591. Lian, as a hacienda, was bequeathed by Padre Jose Cabral, the parish priest of Balayan in 1666 to the Jesuit College of San Jose, upon his death. In his will, he requested that the proceeds from the state be used to maintain a chaplaincy, support the church of Balayan and aid the poor of that district. Based upon official sources, the parish of LIan was created in 1870. However, there are extant documents in the Archdiocese of Manila referring to this place as a parish as early as 1807 with an interino, Father Vicente Ponce de Leon. A granary house, rebuilt by the Jesuits after the uprising of 1745, was converted in a church.

"Although the land was owned by the Jesuits, the secular clergy, who administered Balayan since 1697, attended to the spiritual needs of the residents.

"The old church, which survived until 1950, was demolished and replaced by one of modern style. The people of Lian are devoted to their patron saint, Saint John the Baptist, whose popular image captivates religious sentiments not only among the parishioners, but also among the people of Western Batangas."

Challenge: Bring someone back to God.

On our way to the third church, our bus had a flat. Everyone is praying that we arrive to Balayan safely. One commented, even with the flat, it seems the bus is "floating".

The third church is the Parish of the Immaculate Conception at Balayan.

"Balayan is a coastal town situated on the shore of Balayan Bay. It is bound on the north by Tuy, on the east by Calaca, and on the south by Lian and Calatagan.

"The foundation of the parish as recorded was in 1974. However, long before that year, the Christianization of the area had already started. Beginning in 1570, Balayan was explored and evangelized by the Augustinians who came with Martin de Goiti; in 1578, by the Franciscans; and in 1591 by the Jesuits. After the Jesuits, secular priests administered the area. The Jesuits returned in 1753; in 1768, the secular clergy again; and in 1876, the Augustinian Recollects administered Balayan until the outbreak of the Revolution in 1896. Balayan was made a pueblo in 1575, comprising then of the present towns of Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan and Tuy. The twon was made the capital of the province until 1732.

"The first church of light materials was built by Fray Diego de Espinar in the place called Lanatan and then another in Ermita. The Augustinians left Balayan to concentrate on their mission in Taal. The Franciscans took over. In 1579, Fray Francisco de Santa Maria constructed the stone church in the present site.

"The first Jesuit who administered Balayan was Fray Pedro Chisino, but after a couple fo years he left Balayan and the town was left to the secular clergy. By 1754, the Jesuits were back during that time, pirates form the south raided and plundered the town. They also turned the church and drove the Jesuits away.

"After the pirates' attack, the church was reconstructed and fortified by Padre Jose de Ayala, a native secular priest. This fortified church, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, survived until the present time.

"In Balayan, the traditional fiesta is celebrated every December 8th, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Very recent is the celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist, which coincides with the festival, the "Parada ng Lechon sa Balayan"."

We, then, had our lunch at Agot's Bar and Restaurant.

Our fourth church is the Parish of St. Raphael at Calaca.

"Calaca, which was the midpoint of the ancient communities of Balayan and Taal, became an independent parish in 1836, around the same time as the establishment of the town. The patron saint chosen was St. Raphael Archangel, whose image was enshrined in the first church made of bamboo and nipa palm.

"In 1848, Archbishop Jose Aranguren of Manila came to the town for the episcopal visitation. Observing that the old structure church did not seem to justify the dignity of the parish, he suggested to the parish priest, Padre Basilio Vizconde to construct a church made of stone. In 1854, a license was granted to him. The first attempt in the church constructed, however was traumatic. On February 13, 1854, when the foundation was about to be blessed by Padre Vizconde, a park fell, unfortunately on the nipa roof of the provisional church and despite the furious effort of the townspeople to quench the fire, it spread instantly, reducing the whole church with its retablo to ashes. Padre Vizconde undaunted by what had happened, pursued the completion of the project, until it was finally inaugurated on October 24, 1861. This stone church had survived the wars and earthquakes of the succeeding years. Until recently, this magnificent structure is one of the best-preserved church in the province, including its interiors."

Our fifth church is the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face at Sta. Teresita. We were also able to venerate the relic of St. Therese.

"In 1943, by order of Bishop Alfredo Verzosa, Fr. Vicente Catapang started to establish a prospective parish in Taal. The parish center would be Sambat, his place of origin and barrio, which was then under the jurisdiction of Taal.

"The first chapel, dedicated to Santa Teresita del Nino Jesus, was constructed on a piece of land lent by the relatives of Fr. Catapang. Fr. Catapang, by order of Bishop Rufino J. Santos (later a cardinal when he became Archbishop of Manila), proceeded to build a larger parish church on the same lot where the chapel was. The construction of which was started in 1951, and was finished and dedicated on February 20, 1952. On December 29, 1961 Sambat became a municipality, and was renamed Santa Teresita.

"When Fr. Catapang died on March 1, 1980, he was succeeded by Father Venerando Rocamora. The Parish Pastoral Council decided to acquire a bigger lot for the construction of a new church. Unfortunately, Fr. Rocamora passed away before the start of the construction of a new church. In 1981, Fr. Alberto Malaipay, then a parochial vicar of Taal, was appointed priest-in-charge of Sta. Teresita, and the construction of the church became his responsibility. He was succeeded by Fr. Gregorio Landicho. On February 21-22, 2000, the Pilgrim Relic of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, the millennium saint, visited the parish, during the tgerm of Fr. Antonio Platon Tolentino. During the incumbency of Fr. Eriberto Cabrera, Archbishop Ramon Arguelles declared the parish church the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face on January 2, 2007. The second visit of the Pilgrim Relics took place on February 10-11, 2008. Fr. Bert Cabrera spearheaded the renovation of the shrine on 2009-2010."

Next stop is the Holy Family Parish at Bolo, Bauan.

"The idea of creating Barangay Bolo a new Parish in Bauan was initially conceived by the then Archbishop of Lipa, now Archbishop of Manila, Gaudencio Cardinal B. Rosales, in 1996 since the Immaculate Conception Parish during that time was too big for only a few priests to meet the spiritual needs of the whole community. Msgr. Alberto Boonggaling, Bauan parish priest, recommended the 18 barangays on the western part of Bauan to comprise the proposed parish.

"On April 27, 1977, the ground breaking ceremonies and blessing of cornerstone was led by Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales. A few years after, Bishop Jose Salazar, the then Administrator of the Archdiocese of Lipa, blessed the church on February 21, 1994. On November 20, 1994, this new parish was canonically erected as the Parish of the Holy Family and was blessed by Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles. Fr. Ariel O. Gonzales was installed as its first parish priest."

Our last stop is the Parish of the Most Holy Trinity Shrine of the Glorious Cross at Pallocan West.

"This new parish rises in the middle of a new commercial district of Batangas City in Pallocan West. The generous Pastor clan donated 6,000 square meters of land where the new beautiful chruch is constructed. This church is strategically and geographically accessible to the nearby barangays of the eastern portion of the city. It was inaugurated in 2004, with Father Ildefonso Dimaano as the first parish priest. Furthermore, the parish church is the realization of a dream of the former Archbishop of Lipa, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, that the place would be the Shrine of the Glorious Cross as a continuous homage to God by the faithful during the celebration of the Jubilee Year 2000."

My movie for the week is Rango, an animated action, adventure film about a wimpy, role-acting chameleon who does not know his identity. Ending up on a DIRT-y town on an accident, he was thrust to a role of a sheriff. Very good visuals. And Johnny Depp, as usual, the voice of Rango, did not disappoint. Love the quote of the man with no name... "No man can walk out on his own story".

Framed Shots: Tikim, Takam, Tsalap

It is our camera club's monthly meeting. This month's photo theme is "Tikim, Takam, Tsalap" (food photography). We would be having Filipino dishes as our subject.

One of the judges profusely commented on one of my entries which got 12th place. He said it was done creatively, made use of lights effectively, simple and provided texture for the background. Actually, my winning entry I consider my pasaway entry. Hehehe!

We also have a guest who shared tips and techniques on Adobe Photoshop. His workflow is:
a) Crop
b) Clean
c) Tonal correction
d) Color correction
e) Manipulation
f) Sharpen
g) Convert to CMYK (if for print)

Adjust curves for tonal range. Use levels, bow curve to lighten or darken, S-curve for contrast.

On my way home, something happened that had tears flowing in my eye. An ant went inside my left eye. Tried everything from running water, but still was not able to remove it. Thus, went to the emergency room of Makati Medical Center to have it looked after.

My movie weekend is Who's That Girl? The movie runs on a premise of a mistaken identity.

When Elizabeth Pedroza (Anne Curtis) reads in a newspaper that her long-time crush, John Eduque (Luis Manzano), she was devastated. She went to the wake, making a scene. It was her crush's father, John Eduque Sr., who was dead. She, then, becomes the mystery girl, who everyone thinks is the mistress. Maybe I am just mababaw, but laughing is refreshing.

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Italianni's.

Caracol 2011

Woke up early to catch the light... for my breakfast shot.

Was able to get the cup and plate I needed to execute my concept. Needed it for next month's photo contest theme.

After lunch left to attend the Caracol 2011--Makati's Mardi Gras. The parade would start at 4pm but the participants would be preparing by 3pm. Nice time to take those shots.

I Am Number Four

Confirmed. After buying a refill for my Parker Esprit ballpen, I lost the pen! Now, I have to replace the pen...

After a quick lunch, watched I Am Number Four. Nine alien teenagers were brought to earth with their protectors, moving from town to town, trying to escape an evil empire out to kill them. Three of the teeners were already killed. The fourth just discovered his powers and try everything to survive. They eventually realize, together, they are stronger. There's lots of action and CGI.

After, attended the anticipated Mass and was treated at Chili's by a friend for her birthday.

Bulong

I was supposed to cover the DSAPI (Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc.) Happy Walk at SM City North EDSA. Our office's camera club was invited by DSAPI. Registration starts at 8AM. I woke up 8AM. That did it.

So, just waited for the time to go to SM Mall of Asia (MOA) for my usual birthday treat to the February celebrants: my mother's friend and my brother's secretary.

We had our lunch at Gerry's Grill. We had Green Mango Salad for starters, Chicken Lollipop, their bestseller Pork Sizzling Sisig, Inihaw na Pusit, Inihaw na Tuna Belly, Inihaw na Liempo, Gerry's Grill Fried Chicken, and Tinomok.

After, the group watched Bulong, a horror, comedy film starring Vhong Navarro and Angelica Panganiban. A heartbroken male nurse seeks the help of the paranormal to catch the girl of his dreams. It was the belief that if you whisper your wish to the dead, your wish will be granted. The fulfillment of his dream has a price as something horrible follows him around. The film is enjoyable as the comedy works. One proof that it does... one of our group usually sleeps when watching a movie. This time around, she was awake all through out.

Food Photography Workshop

Our camera club conducted a workshop on food photography, in preparation for next month's photo theme contest.

There was a lecture on food photography, food styling and lighting. In the afternoon, it was the actual preparation of the food and the shoot.

Left early to go to Glorietta to attend the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Super Bowl.

Balance, Unity, Focus, Flow (BUFF)

The Plate:
Bigger is better.
Color me neutral.

The Food:
What grows together goes together. Preparing fresh ingredients that are in season.

The Setup:
Clock it--Conventional "Smiley face". Starch at ten, meat at two, vegetable at six o'clock.
Focus, focus--You can lean the meat on the starch.
Get saucy--Spoon sauce under the meat than on top.
Start arranging from the center of the plate.
Reserve the front of the plate for the most attractive and appetizing food.
Put height on your plate.
Think color.
