Wong Fei-hung (Jet Li), a Chinese martial arts master and folk hero of Cantonese ethnicity, travels by train from Foshan to Canton to attend a seminar on medicine. The situation there is very chaotic. Protests against the signing of the Treaty. There is also the White Lotus Sect, a cult which goes on attacking Westerners and destroying anything regarded as alien to the Chinese culture.
