Day 4: Best Of Europe & Marian Pilgrimage

Call time is 5:30AM, buffet breakfast at 6:30AM, departure is 7:30AM.

Left Rome on our way to Assisi, Italy. Our driver for ten (10) days is Ricardo.

On the way, we watched a movie onboard the bus about St. Francis and St. Claire.

First stop is at Basilica Papale di Santa Maria degli Angeli in Porziuncola (St. Mary of Angels). This is where we had our Mass led by our Pilgrimage Chaplain Fr. Ronilo "Nono" Huesca.

Next is the Basilica Papale di San Francisco. This is where the body of St. Francis of Assisi was laid to rest. By this time, rain is starting. Chat inquired if the group is willing to skip St. Claire's Basilica in favor of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The group agreed to see the structure while there is still light.

We also had our lunch there and waited for the bus to pick us up at 2PM. When we were picked-up, it was decided to still proceed to St. Claire's. Good move. In the Philippines, it was believed that offering eggs to Sta. Clara will give good weather. Noticed that when we have to stop, the rain turns to drizzle. The heavy rain happens when we are still in the bus on our way to our destination.

So, went to the Basilica di Santa Chiara. St. Claire is put to rest there.

Now, we are on our way to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We have to leave our bus and use the local bus. The local bus would only ply until 7PM else we have to walk to the landmark. Was able to arrive around 6:30PM.

On our way back to the bus, a guy in a bicycle ran after the group and talked to Chat. He said he saw that one of us (in a backpack) was a victim of pickpockets. That's the only time the victim learned he was a victim. He lost USD2,000, PhP10,000.00 plus credit cards.

On our way to the hotel, everyone was quiet.

We checked-in at Tower Inn Pisa Valdera. We also had our dinner there. The problem with changing hotels, you have to learn how to use their card keys and how to open the shower. Hehe!
