Solemnity of All Saints

My usual day to visit our dearly departed is every November 1 (Solemnity of All Saints) instead of during All Soul's Day.  But unlike the usual, I would be attending the Mass instead of via online.  Thus, timing is crucial.

Left the condo around 4AM.  With us is Luis, Edgar's youngest.

First stop is at Manila Memorial Park.  Here, we prayed the first and second mysteries of the Rosary.  Edgar, the driver, is busy arranging the flowers already in the tombs and lighting the candles we brought. Every tomb we visit, pray the Panalangin kung dumadalaw sa isang libingan. sprayed holy water on their tombs, one decade of Rosary, and Panalangin kung aalis na sa libingan.

Next stop is at Sgt. Mariano Public Cemetery.  Here, we prayed the third to fifth mysteries of the Rosary.

Third stop is at Sto. Nino de Paz Greenbelt Chapel to attend the Mass.  The Mass presider is Fr. Benny.

Today is the feast of all saints. It reminds us of our universal calling--call to holiness.

Why do we celebrate it?  It is our destiny to be with God.

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.

Last stop is at McDonald's for our breakfast.  Ordered dine-in and to-go.  While eating, a group came in. I noticed a couple from the group with the girl's eyes looking as if she would kill the boy in front of her.  According to Edgar and Luis, the group is drunk.  Then, the group changed tables... a bit farther from us.  Almost finished eating, one of the group's voice grew louder.  Leaving, passed by the counter and looked for the manager.  Informed her about the trouble done by that group.

While in the car, we can see what is happening inside the fastfood.  Saw a small brawl.  Tsk!  Tsk!

Home.

During the first eight days of November, the Church offers the faithful a special opportunity to obtain plenary indulgences for the souls in Purgatory.

Here is how you can participate:

1. Perform one of the following indulgenced acts:
• November 1–8: Devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, even silently, for the deceased.
• November 2 (All Souls’ Day): Visit a church or oratory and recite the Our Father and the Apostles’ Creed.

2. Fulfill the usual conditions:
🙏 Receive Sacramental Confession.
🙏 Receive Holy Communion.
🙏 Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father (an Our Father and a Hail Mary are recommended).
🙏 Have the intention of gaining the indulgence.
🙏 Be completely detached from all sin, including venial sin.

A few important things to remember:

• One sacramental Confession can suffice for several plenary indulgences.
• Holy Communion and prayer for the Pope's intentions must be repeated for each plenary indulgence.
• Confession, Communion, and prayer may be completed several days before or after the indulgenced act. However, Communion and prayer for the Pope's intentions should take place on the same day as the prescribed act.
• If all the conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence will be partial rather than plenary.

What is a plenary indulgence?

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1471), an indulgence is the remission of temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. A plenary indulgence removes all of this temporal punishment, while a partial indulgence removes part of it.

Indulgences can be applied to the living or to the faithful departed.

❤️ This November, let us remember the Holy Souls in Purgatory and offer our prayers and sacrifices for them. Praying for the dead is a beautiful spiritual work of mercy.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
