Endocrinologist Check-up
I made an appointment with my endocrinologist to interpret the result of the laboratory tests she requested. I was given the 7 AM to 8 AM slot (we are actually many on the slot--a first come first served--to manage the number of patients per hour). Good thing, too, that it is a holiday that I don't have to take a leave.
I was at her clinic at Makati Medical Center (MMC) around 6:40 AM. There are already people waiting for their turn. I think I am fifth in the queue.
My doctor is happy with the result that I'll be coming back in six (6) months instead of three (3) months. Except for my weight. Funny thing, she said that when she saw me enter her room, she thought "Naku, tumaba ang pasyente ko." (Translation: Uh-oh, my patient got fat.) LOL š I know... what is funny is she is quite frank about it. Hahaha!
Since it is really early for the mall to be open, I decided to have breakfast at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Ayala North Exchange Tower. I was hoping they would have regular meals like their Eggs Benedict, I guess this branch does not have their Kitchen. So, ordered Tuna Pandesal and Cafe Latte (PhP145.00). After my breakfast, I walked back to MMC where Edgar, the driver, picked me up.

Waiting for The Landmark Food Center and The Landmark Supermarket to open at 8:30 AM, we stayed in the parked car with the air-conditioning on. As soon as it opened, I went to the restroom (bowel movement after eating breakfast). LOL Left Edgar there to have his breakfast and do whatever he likes until it is time to go home.
I found myself walking to Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. Prayed my St. Joseph Rosary (my Wednesday devotion) and the Precious Blood Chaplet. I hope Jesus did not mind me making tambay there while waiting for the mall to open. š A few minutes before 10 AM, I walked my way back to The Landmark and Glorietta. I will be back before 12:15 PM to attend the Wednesday Mass.
Simply strolling, went to the Glorietta 2 Activity Center where there are pop-up stores that sell Chinese or Feng Shui items. I guess it is their way to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Time to go back to Greenbelt Chapel for the Mass. I think for a regular day Mass, there are a big number of attendees.
The Mass presider is Fr. Jo.
The Word read by the lector and by the priest is God directly talking to us. Thus, we make this moment to speak to God. The Word of God makes Himself tangible.
The parable of the sower may make us identify ourselves as the type of soil. The focus is (/should be) the sower and not the soil.
The key takeaways on the readings and Gospel are:
- God illustrates Himself the sower of seed in whatever context we are in. No one is deprived of the seed of the Word.
- He came out of the house and went to the seashore. Jesus who is the sower of the seed--in the land, in the sea, etc. The Word is suitable for every context in our life. When faith is shared, faith grows.
- Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear. The Word of God brings us closer to God.
Sharing the words of Saint Pope John Paul II: When minds are enlightened and hearts are enkindled, signs begin to "speak".
After the Mass, I went to
One Ayala to eat at
Panco Cafe. I found the restaurant I would be dining in when I am abstaining from meat! š Ordered Fish Tartare (PhP380.00) and Hot Chocolate (PhP165.00).

Earlier, I passed
The Manila Baker that one cake caught my eye. Thus, after lunch, I went back there to buy the cake. Bought the Chocolate Mascarpone Cloud Cake (PhP1,480.00). This is their popular cake. Their second popular cake is the Original Basque Burnt Cheesecake. Learned that their cakes are good for diabetics.

As soon as I arrived home, tried the cake. Luv it!

Urinalysis
Yesterday, I wasnāt able to provide the specimen. Planned to leave much, much earlier than usual so I can go to
Makati Medical Center (MMC) to try to collect for my urinalysis test. Brought my 500 ml
Aquaflask with exorcised and blessed water. Also bought two (2) 500 ml bottled water at MMC. Success! I was able to collect within an hour.
Since there is still a lot of time, I was dropped off at Glorietta instead of at the Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. There are several pop-up stores at the Glorietta Activity Center 2. I was able to buy a key chain with a big Benedictine Medal in it. I think I can also use it as a bag charm. Will have it blessed.
There are many interesting items displayed in the pop-up stores. But focusing on spiritual warfare, there are stores that sell religious items, there are stores that sell Feng Shui items (this may be their products but they are capitalizing on the coming Chinese New Year), there are Feng Shui items with the evil eye as design, there are the Labubu dolls (demon dog), there are crystals with religious design and Feng Shui designs. One must really be careful lest you open the door for the devil to attack you.
Before proceeding to the Greenbelt Chapel for the anticipated Mass, passed by The Landmark to buy spoons and forks. Also checked for an AM/ FM Radio with Bluetooth at Anson's which is inside The Landmark. It is out of stock. Will check other stores after the anticipated Mass.
The Mass presider is Fr. Roy.
This Sunday is Sunday of the Word of God. It is a stern reminder on how we relate to the Word of God--the right attitude towards the Word of God.
How food gives nutrition to our body, the same is true for the Word of God.
- GROW in the Word. Grow in the knowledge in the Scripture. Ignorance of the Scripture is ignorance in Jesus Christ. During the pandemic, it is when we learned what is essential.
- GLOW by the Word. Seek to highlight the presence of God in our life. The Word of God is a double edged sword. It is impossible for us not to be touched by the Word if we are serious in learning the Word. Keep the Word of God alive--we need to pass it on.
- GO into the Word. Incarnate the Word by living it in our lives.
After the Mass, I went to Anson's at The Link. The AM/ FM Radio with Bluetooth is also not available.
I will buy my food-to-go before going to
SM Appliance to check the availability of the radio. This time, it would be
Peri-Peri. My sauces are Cajun Remoulade, Sweet Soy, and Hoisin Sesame.
And the radio, it is also not available at SM Appliance.
Continuing the blog at home, there are fireworks that are being set off. I wonder why?

Laboratory Test, Friday Mass and Secret Recipe
Took a leave today to take the laboratory tests requested by my doctors. I need to fast for ten to twelve hours. My last meal is at 10:30PM so that I will have enough buffer when I leave the condo around 9AM to Makati Medical Center.
I thought it will just be a breeze; did not know I need to have a urinalysis test. So, bought three (3) 500ml water, hoping to force me to pee. Unfortunately, it was not the case. Perhaps if they requested for a stool test? LOL
Since I don't think I would be able to give a specimen without being late for the Friday Mass, decided to give the specimen tomorrow instead. Was dropped off at Glorietta so I can check the pop-up stall of myjourneyph. Was able to buy three (3) St. Christopher and Our Lady of Highway clip for my Avanza, my HR-V and for my niece's car. Will have it blessed.
Interestingly, met one of their customers who are asking how their products are made, where they buy the materials, etc.--spiritual warfare concerns. I butted in telling him to check the design itself to know. He said he doesn't know what to look for. So, I explained the things to check for in the Miraculous Medal as well in the Benedictine Medal. Learned he has an exorcist friend. Also his sister has cancer and is now confined at Makati Medical Center. Will pray for her. Before I left, gave him a bottle of exorcism oil. He also knows about Fr. Darwin Gitgano, an exorcist from Bohol.
Walked quickly to Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. The community praying the rosary is about to start. Left the religious items on the table for the blessing later after Mass and proceeded to my seat.
The Mass presider is Fr. Marthy. He started his homily by asking why we are there attending the Mass. He said it is because we are called. Remember the grace of God for (us) being called.
Jesus called, summoned those who He wanted. It is intentional. Inspite of our sinfulness, inadequateness. Just because we are called, we should not be comfortable that we are already saved because Judas was also chosen. If you have forgotten who you are, you betray the Lord.
He added, after Mass, preach the love and mercy of God.
Another interesting thing happened. The blessing Fr. Marthy gave to our religious items is an exorcism and a blessing. š
For late lunch, went to Secret Recipe at One Ayala, I will try their Pan-Grilled Fish Cutlet with Lobster Sauce (PhP475.00). Did not finish it and have my left-over packed so I can bring it home.
Passed by Mary Grace to buy a mini chocolate cake before proceeding home.
Of course, placed the exorcised and blessed sacramental in the Avanza.

Denny's
Grocery day.
Left late than usual during my grocery day at The Landmark Supermarket. But still, was able to finish it in time to attend the Saturday Mass at the Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. I was able to join the community rosary prayer before the Mass.
I first placed the Our Lady of Guadalupe bag charm at the table for the blessing after the Mass before taking my seat.

Our Lady of Guadalupe bag charm |
The Mass presider is Fr. Paolo. Fr. Paolo shared that his congregation, Society of St. Paul, has an annual St. Paul's Bible Quiz, with regional and national competition. But the real competition is each one's life--the discernment, listening and the application of the Word of God in our daily lives.
The Word of God is alive and active. It comforts us, consoles us, in as much as it confronts us, challenges us to change our mindset, our attitudes. It informs the mind, inspires the heart, and impels us to action.
The Word of God is the standard of our Christian life. At the end of the day, we ask: what have we done, what have we failed to do, what we must do for the next day.
After the Mass, proceeded to One Ayala to try another restaurant. This time, it would be Denny's.
I asked the server what their popular meal is. Obviously, they are known for their pancakes. She suggested their Pork Belly Crunch (PhP375.00/565.00), Chicken Teriyaki (PhP395.00) and Eggplant Fritata (PhP395.00). Since I already had eggs for breakfast, asked her the options for the skillets. It is the NYC Salisburry (PhP495.00) and the Cajun Shrimp (PhP495.00). The latter is spicy. Opted for the Cajun Shrimp. Not bad. With the meal is free bread (pan de sal) and brewed coffee. Did not avail of the coffee.

And for my Frappuccino fix, went to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf where I started this blog.
Satisfied, went to the Mary Mother of Hope Chapel at The Landmark. This chapel is one of the Jubilee churches. I thought, to gain plenary indulgence, I must be in a state of grace, partaken of the Holy Eucharist and prayed for the intention of the Pope upon visiting the (Jubilee) church/ chapel.
But in this chapel, there is actually a process to follow...?
- By the door, there is the image of Mama Mary where you would say a prayer to her.
- By the altar, in front of the image of Mary Mother of Hope, pray the rosary. At the center aisle, genuflect to the tabernacle.
- At the Jubilee Cross, say its prayer.
- At the image of Pope John Paul II is his relic. Venerate the relic. You may also drop in the box your petition.
- Pray for the Pope's intention at the Adoration Chapel.
- Light a candle for your petition.
- Watch a short video about Mama Mary.
- Attend the Mass.
Someone from chapel is there to assist and explain. If you have done everything, you would gain a plenary indulgence, and they will give you a necklace with the Mary Mother of Hope image.
Here's the catch, and which I asked her. I already prayed the rosary and attended the Mass at the Greenbelt Chapel. There is no video playing. Since they just started, this has not been set-up. Instead, it is played before the Mass. He also shared that those who attended the Mass last night for the inauguration of the chapel as a Jubilee church/ chapel have already earned a plenary indulgence. I am supposed to attend the anticipated Mass at the Greenbelt Chapel. In any case, they still gave me the necklace. Question: did I still earn the plenary indulgence?
The Mass presider of the anticipated Mass is Fr. Ronaldo.
The Philippines has the longest Christmas season. Tomorrow is the feast of the Sto. Nino (Holy Child). We should be the people embodying the values of God's incarnation. We who adore the Child Jesus has to grow in our heart for He is changing us, He is converting us, and we must share Him to others.
Remove doubts, problems, conflicts and let Jesus be within us. If we want to find Him, come and experience Him in the Church.
When we find the Lord in ourselves, let others discover Jesus' presence in us--in the way we love, we forgive, etc.
After the Mass, went to Booya Bagels for bagels to go. They got a promo that when you buy three (3) sandwiches, you get one free.
Was interested in the headphone and speaker in one. So bought the
Doqaus' Vogue 3 headphone at
SM Makati (I actually saw the ad at this store).
Then went to Pet Express to buy Theo's dog food.
Passed by Booya Bagels to pick up my order before proceeding home.
N.B. Tested the Vogue 3. I can hear a buzzing sound when connected via Bluetooth. But when I play the music in the TF card, the audio is clear. Tsk! Tsk!

Delinquent Tenant
Normally, I would be leaving home after lunch to attend the anticipated Mass if it is not my schedule to do groceries. But I wanted to talk to our tenant who is way past due on her rent. She was already advised I would be talking to her today.
It was in 2022 when we agreed on her payment terms to make up for her delinquent payments. It is already 2025, she still did not mend her ways. Anyway, she already came up on how she would be paying. She would be issuing post-dated checks for the 10th and the 25th of each month. Hopefully she would not renege on her word.
Since that was a quick meeting, I still have time to attend the Saturday Mass. So, I have asked Edgar, the driver, to drop me off at the Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. In time, too, as I was able to join the community praying the rosary.
The Mass presider is Fr. Dave. He started by saying not all mistakes are sins, but all sins are mistakes ("Hindi lahat nang nagkakamali ay nagkasala. Lahat nang nagkasala ay nagkamali." Saying it in Tagalog has more impact. LOL)
We also perceive the same mistake differently as it depends on who committed the mistake. If he/ she is our friend, we let it go. But if he/ she happens to be an enemy, we would react angrily.
Everybody prays, even those who have sinned and erred. We should not judge. God listens even to those who sinned. Be understanding and merciful, as God is understanding and merciful to us.
If we are not in a situation or predicament, we easily judge and condemn. Fr. Dave pointed out the parable of the one lost sheep and the ninety-nine sheep that the shepherd left behind to find the missing sheep.
Funnily, Fr. Dave said that one pope said "pagiging tanga ay isang biyaya... huwag mo lang araw-arawin." (translation: being stupid is grace... just don't do it every day).
Again, it is time to try a new restaurant. I walked my way to One Ayala. Was thinking of trying Crisostomo. Unfortunately, their food serving is for two to three persons.
So, hopped to the restaurant next to it. Panco Cafe. I assume this is from Melbourne, Australia. LOL
The food recommended by the server, that is, Breakfast Brisket (PhP460.00), is spot on!
Since the service is fast, I still have time to go around One Ayala. Saw in the internet that one of the stores in the mall is Biblio and AMen. I assumed it would be religious stores. Far from it. Biblio is a store of pre-loved books. AMen is a jewelry store.
Of course, I would not skip my Frappuccino fix at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf where I started this blog.
Walked back to Greenbelt Chapel for the anticipated Mass, pausing at a stall selling mobile phone accessories to buy a micro USB cable as Lyn's got broken.
The Mass presider is Fr. Benny.
What does the baptism of Jesus mean for us?
- It is an opportunity for John the Baptist to be the precursor of the Savior.
- It is an opportunity to reveal the Trinity. God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is in the event.
- It is an opportunity for Jesus to signal to John that He will already start His ministry. "He must increase, but I must decrease."
The Christmas story in the Gospel of Mark starts with the baptism. (Christmas season ends with the baptism of Jesus.)
Jesus is faithful to His baptism, to His mission. How about our baptism? Are we faithful to our mission: to maintain our holiness, to be part of the family of God.
Even the Protestants believe that we have been saved upon baptism. But for us Catholics, we believe that we have to maintain to be saved.
After the Mass, went to Mercury Drug at The Landmark to buy the supplement recommended by my gastroenterologist for my fatty liver. Then, proceeded to Fat Fook Kitchen to buy food-to-go before going home.

Silymarin With Vitamin E
Last day of my long vacation. Scheduled to have my full abdomen ultrasound with fibroscan result interpreted by my doctor.
Her clinic at Makati Medical Center starts at 2 PM. But was advised by her assistant that it may be earlier. So, I was at her clinic around 12:30 PM.
For my fatty liver, she asked that I take silymarin with vitamin E. She also added laboratory tests on top of the other laboratory tests requested by my other doctor.
Will schedule these tests...
First Saturday Of 2025
It is the first Saturday of January and the first Saturday of 2025. I continuously observe the first Saturday devotion in reparation to the blasphemies to the Immaculate Heart of Mama Mary. The devotion is only for five first Saturdays; but, I wanted to do it continuously.
The devotion have the following elements:
- To go to Confession either on the First Saturday itself or at least one week before or one week after the First Saturday itself.
- To receive Holy Communion on the First Saturday itself (preferably at Holy Mass).
- To pray five decades of the Rosary on the First Saturday itself.
- And to keep Our Lady company for at least fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, following the praying of the Rosary, on the First Saturday itself.
The conditions of the devotion are:
- That the practice be done on the First Saturday of five consecutive months.
- That the practices be done precisely with the intention of making reparation to Our Lady for the sins of blasphemy and ingratitude against her and her Immaculate Heart.
Blasphemies against the Blessed Virgin include: - those against her Immaculate Conception;
- those against her perpetual virginity;
- those against her Divine maternity and which are carried out by persons refusing at the same time to accept her as the Mother of mankind;
- those which are carried out by persons who try publicly to implant in the hearts of children an indifference, contempt, and even hate for this Immaculate Mother; and
- those which are carried out by persons who insult her directly in her sacred images.
But first, I completed my groceries at The Landmark Supermarket, leaving Edgar, the driver, to bring home the groceries. He will also walk Theo, the dog, upon arriving at the condominium. Hehe!

I walked my way to
Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel for the confession and to attend the Mass. After the confession, while waiting for the Mass, meditated on the third
Glorious Mystery, prayed the Precious Blood chaplet, and joined the rosary as a community.
Speaking of sins (confession), I remembered one video of Monsignor Rossetti. If you are being tempted, we can say:
"In the holy name of Jesus, I reject the evil spirits of [name the temptation]. I reject them; I renounce them; I rebuke them. In Jesus' holy name, I cast them out!"
 |

The Mass presider is Fr. Paolo. He started by asking if we have a New Year's resolution. Begin with the end in mind.
For those who have resolutions, it should be S.M.A.R.T. Simple. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Time-bound.
Others have a motto or a mantra. For example, "trust the process", "focus forward", "never again <trait>", "less, more" (less talking, more listening; etc.)
Give clarity of our vision. The Devil distorts our vision; thus, we must be discerning.
He shared the prayer of St. Augustine "Let me know You, O You who know me; then shall I know even as I am known."
Pray for the gift of clarity of vision. Pray for the correctness of vision. Pray for control of vision (silence, meditation).
Since Mary Mother of Hope Chapel at The Landmark is one of the Jubilee churches, went there hoping to gain a plenary indulgence. Unfortunately, its inauguration would still be on January 17--meaning that is when its "doors" will be opened.
So, I went to
One Ayala for lunch. This time, I tried
Secret Recipe. It is also a member of the Bistro Group. Hmm... Maybe it is about time I get the BFF card...?

The waitress there recommended the Pan-grilled fish cutlet with lobster sauce (PhP475.00), Fried rice with chicken satay (PhP375.00), Nesi lemak (PhP495.00/PhP895.00), and Grilled mushroom chicken chop (PhP345.00/PhP525.00). Opted for the grilled mushroom chicken chop. Not bad. Also tried their homemade chocolate hazelnut ice cream.

Of course, would not miss my Frappuccino fix at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf where I started this blog. Better to remember, my dear, especially the homily. At around 3:30 PM, walked my way back to Greenbelt Chapel for the anticipated Mass. Hope no one is seating in my favorite seat/ pew. LOL
Since the anticipated Mass will celebrate the Epiphany, I commented loudly that I am hoping that they will give away a blessed chalk. The one beside me asked what the chalk is for, so explained to her. Somehow, our topic went to sacramentals. Unfortunately, the way I understood her, she thinks the holy salt and water is like an amulet as it provides protection to her body. She has cancer. I cannot correct her since the Mass would already be starting. Anyway, I gave her an exorcised oil. I also included her in my Mass intention.
At the end of the Mass, she said she would pray for me. I said to her that I already included her in my Mass intention. I explained to her in what portion of the Mass she should be saying her intention, that is, during offertory, right after the prayer of the faithful. The bread and wine are brought to the altar, and the priest begins the preparation and blessing of the gifts. When he uncovers the paten, we can mentally place our intentions on the host. Then the priest says, "Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father."
Fr. Godwin is the Mass presider.
Epiphany is from the word epiphanes meaning appearance.
From the Gospel, it is said that the Gentiles are co-heirs; thus, Jesus is not only for the Jews but also for the Gentiles.
The main character of the Gospel is Herod and the three Magi, and both can be described with the three Ds.
- Decision. Both decided to see Jesus, but they have different motives/ intentions. The Magi to pay homage, Herod to kill the child Jesus. The Magi left their comfort zone, Herod remained--finding entails leaving. For reflection: Is our decision made to glorify God or ourselves?
- Discernment. Herod said to the Magi that he, too, wanted to honor the child Jesus. Nothing wrong with the statement of Herod but we must learn to also watch out for the person saying the words/ statement. Learn critical receptivity.
- Direction. The Magi took another route home after seeing Jesus. Encounter with Jesus will change us to be better.
Passed by BPI to withdraw before proceeding home.

First Friday of 2025
I am still on a vacation leave in order to avail the benefit of several holidays. Just using five (5) of my available leaves, I am able to enjoy fourteen (14) days straight of doing non-work related. LOL
It is the first Friday of January and first Friday of 2025, I would be attending the 12:15 PM Mass at Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. I was late that I am unable to join in praying the rosary as a community. The rosary is prayed before the Mass.
The Mass presider is Fr. Benny.
Saint John the Baptist is a great prophet, a miracle baby, and received the Holy Spirit while in the womb (when Mama Mary visited Elizabeth).
John's baptism (water) is of repentance. Jesus' baptism (Holy Spirit) is of forgiveness and salvation.
John's humility is at a forefront--he new his role, he accepted his role, and he freely played that role.
For reflection: Do we know our roles? Do we accept them?
God is God, so we follow. God is God, so we obey.
What is worst? Believing that one does not need God.
After the Mass, I went to Italianni's for lunch. This would be the only meal I would be eating for today (fasting) and must not have meat (abstinence). When I reach my 60th year, I can forego fasting. š So for my lunch, ordered Sicilian salad (ate half at the restaurant and half to-go, PhP595.00) and Parmesan crusted fish fillet (PhP595.00).
Went home after passing by SM Makati to check for a polo blouse.

First Day Of 2025
I would be attending the 9 AM Mass at Sto. NiƱo de Paz Greenbelt Chapel. So, with the niece, we left the condominium at 7:30 AM as we would be dropping her off at her condominium. I am sure, she would continue her sleep and wake up in the afternoon. LOL
Thus, I was able to arrive at the chapel by 8 AM. I wanted to take pictures of the altar as the flower arrangement is pretty nice. Noticed one cat cleaning itself in one of the pews. The Ayala Management let stray cats in the mall, leaving pet food on specific areas of the park. Right in front of the altar, I noticed the cat is beside me, clawing the portion of the pew where you kneel. After taking my pictures, I stood up to leave--the cat put its claws on my pants. Good thing my pants is a bit thick that I was not hurt. Going back to my seat, the cat followed me! As an afterthought, I think that the cat is interested in the small (exorcism) bell I attached to my bag. I made sure that it did not make a sound as it made its way towards me and passed me by. Hehehe!
The Mass presider is Fr. Andy. Today is the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
We (should) begin our day with the intercession of Mary, mother of God and our mother. Theotokos, meaning bearer of God. We ask her (Mary) to "carry" us through the new year.
Reflect: If people see you, would they know you are a Christian? A disciple of Jesus? Christ must be felt by others in how we live.
After the Mass, Fr. Andy blessed my St. Joseph bag charm. I also showed him my Our Lady of Lourdes bag charm. He asked me if I use it "against" the labubu. He knows! Many deliverance ministers are saying that they have cases due to having this (labubu) strange doll, which actually symbolizes a devil dog. This doll has become popular. The same way that teletubbies was popular then. I both don't like them. I have a different feeling when I saw the teletubbies, ditto the labubu.
Before going home, passed by Lydia's Lechon at The Landmark Food Center for 1/4 kilo of lechon. Went through McDonald's drive thru to buy breakfast.
