No Resident Reservations

Today is supposed to be the day I would be attending the free seminars at OWG as one of the activities of Philippine Airlines (including their PAL Photo Contest). Supposedly, there is already a seminar/talk by 10AM. Thus, decided to be there before 10AM, submit first the photo I would submit for the photo competition (including that of my niece's and my friend's daughter's) and be on time for the 10AM talk.

Been waiting for several minutes when I noticed that the talks would start at 2PM! Hello...?! Thus, decided to watch movies instead.

First is No Reservations, a romantic comedy starring Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Kate Armstrong) and Aaron Eckhart (as Nick Palmer). A perfectionist and no-nonsense chef Kate's well-ordered life was turned upside-down when she "inherits" her niece Zoe when Kate's sister died of a car accident. Add to that is the entrance to her life of Nick, someone who is totally different from Kate in character. Kate has to learn to express herself, get our her shell, in order to connect with Zoe and find true happiness with Nick. Definitely a feel good movie although a tear fell in one of the scenes... c",)

After No Reservations, I should be going back to OWG to attend the talks. But, am no longer interested to attend, considering that the weather is rainy (Typhoon Hannah). Thus, decided to watch another movie. This time, it is Resident Evil: Extinction. The third installment of the Resident Evil series, this time Alice helped a convoy of survivors to help find a place free of the T-Virus infection. An action, suspense, thriller movie, it really lived up to the movie's genre. There are lots of action (blood) and is fast-paced. I wonder if there would be a fourth installment, considering the ending of the movie.

After the movie, strolled around the mall and saw again a display of flower arrangement called Sogetsu. Attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Super Bowl. Then, my niece called that they are also at Glorietta 4. Thus, decided to join them when they go home.

3M Privacy Filter

Finally, it has arrived!

I have to make do with the filter for 15" viewing size (even if I use a 17" monitor in the office with 16" viewing). It's because the company I was able to purchase the item from only have in stock the 15" size. If I insist on the 17", I have to order 5 pieces as they only order by bulk.

With the impending transfer at Ortigas and given the way the desks are laid-out, there is no privacy. Thus before the D-Day, I want all the things to ensure my privacy, etc. is in place should be available. My checklists include the privacy filter and PLDT WeRoam subscription.

Tested it (with my improvised monitor hood), and it worked as I wanted it to be!

I wonder where I can buy a monitor hood? Been searching all computer shops and they are not available. Hayyyy...

Many commented on my improvised monitor hood and it is striking, as if I want to do something unusual. Hmmmm... I think I'll make a frame for my privacy filter, stick it on my monitor and remove my improvised monitor hood.

Joshua

Decided to watch Joshua after office. It's been two weeks running and I might not be able to catch it. The movie is exclusively being shown in Ayala Center theaters.

A thriller about an upscale American family faced with horror brought about by their eldest child, Joshua, an exceptionally intelligent and frighteningly precocious boy. Everything changed in what seemed to be a happy family when a new baby girl joined the family. What makes this movie "click" is because one cannot imagine a nine-year old boy can think through all what transpired just to drive his parents "insane" to be with...

Bratz

It's a Bratz day for me.

From dolls to cartoons, the four BFFs (Best Friends Forever) is now a movie. They have to contend with high school's cliques, which threatened their friendship. In no time, these girls got "eaten" by these cliques. Which satisfied the school's student president Meredith, who likes strict enforcement of the system of social cliques. Yasmin, Jade, Sasha and Cloe have to band together to fight peer pressure for them to stand up for their friends, being true to oneself, and live out one's dreams and aspirations.

Don't expect much but simply have fun. And the sister of Meredith does manage to pull out the rug from other them. c",)

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Pizza Hut. Oh, and was able to catch American Idol's Elliot Yasmin at the Glorietta Activty Center.

Ambush!

Came from Ortigas, thus, I would be having a very late lunch. Decided to have my lunch at Chowking-Pacific Star. While waiting for my food to be served, suddenly, people from outside rushed in the fastfood restaurant in panic, kneeling once they were in. What do you expect? The rest of the people who are inside the restaurant also knelt down. Tried my way to the other side of the restaurant bowed down. Somebody hit me, causing me to hit the floor. Sakit tuloy ng tuhod ko! (Translation: My knees hurt!) We waited for a few moment before trying to know what really happened.

Stepped out of the fastfood and saw a bloodied man on the ground infront of a green van. Behind a green van is a light blue pick-up with broken windshield that crashed into Pacific Star's railings. There has been a shootout (ambush) along the intersection of Makati Avenue and Buendia.

Went back to Chowking so that I'll just bring my order back to the office. On the way, one can see a lot of people milling around the area and a GMA News car already parked nearby.

Back in the office, checked the internet and saw that the incident was already posted in GMA's website.

On The Spot: La Mesa Eco Park

Today's the first On The Spot (OTS) activity of Framed Shots I would be joining, and it would be at the La Mesa Eco Park.

(I have never been to the La Mesa Eco Park. Perhaps, I can consider this the place I have not been to I'll be visiting for this year...)

Two weeks ago, I already asked my brother if I can borrow his car and his driver, which he readily agreed (thanks!). This is so that I can easily pack up and leave if (and when) I wanted to.

Next, surfed the internet to know how to get there. Click the City has been very helpful on this.

To quote: "Take Commonwealth Avenue towards Fairview. You will be passing the following landmarks: UP Diliman, Iglesia ni Cristo Templo Central, Ever Gotesco, Sandiganbayan, Litex, Mercury Drugstore. Turn right at East Fairview Subdivision’s Winston St. then right at Marlboro St. all the way to Pall Mall St. where you should turn left. Turn right at the first corner. You will enter the La Mesa Dam Guard House. There is only one road to take then turn left to the parking lot, in front of which is the gate to the park. The lagoon is further down the path.

"For commuters, take a Fairview-bound FX, bus, or jeepney from Philcoa by the entrance to the University of the Philippines. Take note of the abovementioned landmarks and get off at the East Fairview Subdivision. At the gate, you should find plenty of tricycles that can take you to the Eco Park."

Well, the instruction "Turn right at the first corner." is wrong for it will lead you to the La Mesa Dam (although, there is also a guard manning the gate). The instruction should be "Drive through Pall Mall Street and turn right at the end. When you reach the end of that street, turn right again, leading you to the La Mesa Eco Park Guard House."

So met first with my friends at Jollibee-Philcoa, where we had our breakfast at McDonald's-Philcoa (hehehe!) around 6:30AM. We then proceeded to the La Mesa Eco Park after our breakfast. We were the first (Framed Shots) there as the Park is open from 8AM to 5PM.

The assignment for the OTS is to take macro and infrared (IR) photography. Because of fear of being late, forgot my filter for the IR. Yikes! Guess, have to make do with software to make my regular photo to IR.

Left the place around lunch time (although the rest seems keen on staying behind... way until 5PM?). Stopped at Ever Gotesco-Commonwealth for our lunch (at Max's) and proceeded home.

Underdog, I Know Who Killed Me

It would be a movie marathon for me. But first, have to do two things:
a) Submit again my next set of entries for the photo contest. Even the girl who received my entries was impressed. Hehehe!
b) Do my business related to the condo.

My first movie would be I Know Who Killed Me, starring Lindsay Lohan. A suspense, thriller movie about Aubrey Fleming, an aspiring writer, who was abducted and tortured by a brutal serial killer. When she came to, she insists that she is not Aubrey; but Dakota, and that Aubrey is still in danger. You have to watch from the beginning so as not to spoil your movie.

Next is Underdog, an ordinary beagle who turned to a super dog, with unimaginable powers and the ability to speak. He took it upon himself to protect the citizens of Capitol City. There is another story in the movie that makes Shoeshine a.k.a. Underdog to be a hero even without his new-found powers.

It is a Disney movie, so what would you expect? Fun and adventure.

After the movie, participated on the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Italianni's (again).

Disturbia Nancy Drew

It's Mama Mary's birthday!!! Praying the rosary today would be like giving her a lei of flowers for her birthday.

Today, everything seems to fit in place. All the things I want to do today has been completed in a breeze.

First, rode a jeepney to go to Sta. Cruz. I wanted to buy the moisture absorber unit I saw last Sunday when I went with my friends at Hidalgo since they want their pictures developed for the Framed Shots' competition. Now, I know how to get there. (Hidalgo is the place to go to if you want to buy cameras and its accessories.)

Next, I am to take pictures for next month's theme. So, from Sta. Cruz, took a jeepney ride to Pier. Stepped off near the Manila Cathedral and started walking around the area to take images of windows.

Proceeded home when only one frame is still left to be shot in my film camera. This is to pick up the pictures I would be submitting to a photo contest me and my niece would be joining. Finally, was able to find the place to submit our entries. Hope we win.

Then, proceeded to Glorietta to watch a movie (actually, I intend to watch two).

From http://www.disturbia.com/

The first movie is Disturbia. A thriller starring Shia LaBeouf, who became known because of the TV series "Even Stevens". It is a good follow-up movie for him from Transformers. When his father dies in an accident where Kale (Shia) was driving the car, he finds himself under house arrest as he acted rebelliously as he withdraws to himself. With nothing much to do in the house, Kale spies on his neighbors. Then, he suspects one of them is the serial killer the police is searching for. The movie gives one the rush specially the "hunter" becomes the "hunted". But somehow, can't shake the feeling I have seen a movie similar to this plot before...

After the movie, had lunch at Burger King. This is where I saw a P500 discount coupon from Italianni's as somebody left them on the table. Hmmm... that means, it will be Italianni's for dinner for us! c",)

Then, looked for something to capture so that I can have my film developed.

The next movie is Nancy Drew. The popular amateur detective book is now in the silver screen. In the movie, the super sleuth has been uprooted from River Heights and have to contend with a different lifestyle in California. But this doesn't bother her as she has another mystery to solve--the death of the famous actress Dehlia Draycott. This, in itself, is inventive; that is, sending Nancy Drew to Hollywood. A nice touch to make Nancy "modern" or "now".

After the movie, picked up my pictures, attended the anticipated Mass, and, as expected, had dinner at Italianni's. c",)

1408

Decided to watch a movie after office. Besides, there are two more movies to be shown this week that I would like to watch. At least, my list would be shortened.

1408 is a horror, suspense movie about Mike Enslin (John Cusack), a renowned horror novelist who only believes what he sees. His new project is to write about his experience in staying in haunted rooms. He wants to cap it off by staying at Room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel where about 50+ people has died due to various causes. Inspite of the hotel manager's (Samuel L. Jackson) warnings, Enslin still stayed in the room where no person lasted for more than one hour. The movie is fast-paced and keeps one in one's toe, as you don't know what will happen next. Will Enslin be the first to "beat" the evil room?

FPPF's Monthly Critic and Framed Shots' Survival

Today, we would be presenting our correction on the product photography we took last monthly critic conducted by FPPF.

The following are the comments on my images:

* Fill the frame but do not cut the product.

* Pay attention to the lines; pay attention to the edge.

* For ice, you may use filtered lights for colors.

* If a star filter is to be used, the wider the apperture, the bigger the star.

In the afternoon, it is time to present the images we took for Framed Shots' Survival theme. Also, I was tasked to lead the prayer before the camera club's meeting started.
