June Celebrants

Went to SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to treat them for lunch as my birthday gift for them. It is also the day Manny Pacquiao will try to get the lightweight title from David Diaz. On the way to MOA, we already know that Pacquiao wins by KO on the 9th round! Yes!!!

Decided to have the birthday treat at Super Bowl of China restaurant. We were led to a function room (nice!). Also, because the staff of the restaurant learned that there were birthday celebrants, when were about to finish our meal, they surprised us by singing to the birthday celebrants along with ice cream for them. c",)

Wanted

This is it! The week the movie Wanted will be shown. An action, adventure, drama starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman.

If you're Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy), stuck in a dead-end job, and were given a chance for adventure, be a part of a group of assassins, as your father's legacy, what would you do? Test the waters? From start to finish, there's action and there's twists. And because of it, the movie is a lot of fun.

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Italianni's.

Urduja

The last in my list of movies released last week is Urduja, tagged as the first Philippine-made animation movie.

A romantic movie based about Princess Urduja, legendary warrior of Pangasinan, and the forbidden love with a Chinese pirate, Lim Hang. Can't be compared with foreign animations, at least, given the constraints in production, skill and technique is evident. Although the setting is from the past, the dialogue is simple and gives a "present" feel, which makes it more effective.

Just my preference, I prefer the voice of the characters are not easily identifiable to the artists, like Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu of Kung Fu Panda. And Regine Velasquez as Urduja did just that. The rest are also good--Eddie Garcia, Johnny Delgado, Cesar Montano...

Get Smart

Decided to watch a movie after office. This is to tick-off the list of movies released last week that I wanted to watch.

Watched Get Smart at Glorietta 4 Cinemas. An action, comedy about Maxwell Smart (Steve Carrell), an analyst for CONTROL, a secret American spy organization that protects the world against the agents of KAOS. Max dreams of being a field agent. This dream came true when KAOS attacked CONTROL's head office and was able to get information about CONTROL's secret agents. One by one, CONTROL's agents were killed. Thus, Max, teamed-up with Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway), must stop KAOS' plan of nuclear bomb.

It is funny and Steve Carrell is effective as Max. I believe it a classic TV show that was brought to the silver screen. Those who watches the TV show would surely compare it with the movie. I have not watched it (TV show); thus, just enjoyed myself watching the movie as I have no expectations. c",)

Typhoon Frank (Fengshen)!!!

(Updating my blog using my Neo eXplore X1 and PLDT WeRoam. Good thing, I had my sub-notebook fully charged last night.)

Heard from the radio, there was a ship owned by Sulpicio Lines, MV Princess of the Stars, which turned-turtle. That was yesterday. But, it seems rescue operation is on its full swing just early this morning. Bodies have already washed ashore.

A governor of Ilo-Ilo was interviewed and he said that 100 people are dead or unaccounted for.

Typhoon Frank passed Metro Manila while I was sleeping.

As of 11AM, "Frank" is already crossing Central Luzon.

Power was restored in our area around 1PM.

Made Of Honor

For my movie weekend, my two niece joined me. I am considering watching Made of Honor, Get Smart, or Urduja. "Made of Honor" won.

A romance/comedy, Tom (Patrick Dempsey) realized too late that he is in love with his longtime best friend, Hannah (Michelle Monaghan). Hannah has been someone who is constant with his life and someone he has real connection, what with his different women who he keeps emotional distance from. But this is about to change when Hannah goes to Scotland for six weeks. This is when Tom realizes that his life is empty without her. But upon her return, she announces that she is going to marry a handsome and wealthy Scotsman. Tom agrees to be her "maid of honor" in order to get near Hannah, woo her and try to stop the wedding. And, of course, one can guess what will happen. It has all the formula of a romantic, comedy film. Anyway, my niece enjoyed it.

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Pizza Hut Bistro.

Destiny

Finally, the guys from Global Destiny CATV arrived to install cable TV in our house. Installation as agreed during my application for subscription was supposedly last Friday. When I talked to the guy from Destiny, they said they could not find the house. Inspite of the landmark I gave them?!

Anyway, am not that pissed of their delay because I already have Sky Cable in my room. Hehehe!

I wonder when Cablelink would have coverage in our area...

Three Times Panda

It was lunch at Gloria Maris at the CCP Complex. Then, went to Glorietta to watch, again, the Kung Fu Panda.

This time, watched it with my two niece and Manong. My niece is the one who treated us with the movie. I was right--they would enjoy the movie. And I still did, even the third time around!

After the movie, ate early dinner at Pizza Hut Bistro (as we got a 10% discount card for it). Then, dropped by OK Book Store for the Korean DVDs reserved by my nieces. After which, went to Serendra to buy a cake from Contis'.

The Incredible Hulk

It's The Incredible Hulk this weekend!

The movie starts with Bruce Banner hiding out in Brazil. Here, he also tries to control his anger. Corresponding with a biologist nicknamed "Mr. Blue", he tries to find a cure for his condition. There's lots of action, which I think the movie is aiming for its audience. I liked the last scene, the presence of a special guest "character". Also, I wonder what would happen to Mr. Blue who got a drop of Hulk's blood in his head wound... There must be a part two.

After the movie, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Italianni's.

The Happening: A Funeral And A Despedida

Took a day-off from the office as I have to attend a relative's funeral. After the funeral, proceeded to SM Megamall for the despedida lunch for our two officemates. With time in my hands, planned to watch a movie after the despedida.

I was supposed to watch Made of Honor, but it is no longer showing in any of the Glorietta theaters. Thus, decided to watch The Happening, instead, whose first day of showing is today.

An adventure, thriller starring Mark Wahlberg as the teacher Elliot Moore. Here, we were shown how Elliot and his family leaves the city to escape the unknown--something or someone has released something that causes people to suddenly behave strangely, resulting in their deaths. Rather a good idea, but the movie is not that great. Ho-hum...

Had Sky Cable installed in my room's TV...

It should have been Cablelink for the house; but, they don't operate in our area. It's definitely cheaper than Sky Cable and it has the channels I want to watch. Anyways, it would be Sky Cable in my room and Global Destiny for the rest of the house.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Due to government's policy, today is a non-working holiday for June 12's Philippine Independence Day.

Decided to watch The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. An action, fantasy movie, the Pevensie children returns to Narnia after being called back by Prince Caspian, the rightful heir to the throne of Narnia. What is actually one year for them is hundred of years for Narnia; thus, Narnia is not what they remembered it to be. Narnia was conquered by the Telemarines and the Narnians have become extinct. It is now being ruled by an evil king. With the help of the Pevensie children and the Narnians, they would attempt to overthrow the tyrant ruler. There is action. But I think, I like the first Narnia better... c",)

Then, watched again Kung Fu Panda. Hehehe!

Received the SMS around 8PM; but, was able to read it around 12 midnight. My cousin TXTed me that Uncle Nes has passed on...

Kung Fu Panda

It was fun, fast, full of action and heart. From the start to finish, there were laughs, giggles, guffaws and varied reactions... and its not just from the kids! Hehehe!

Kung Fu Panda is about Po, a panda who dreams to be a master of kung fu. And it did not take long as he was accidentally (but come to think of it, according to Oogway, "there are no accidents") chosen as the Dragon Warrior, the hero destined to gain unlimited power and defend the town from Tai Lung. Master Shifu is forced to teach Po the art of kung fu. With Tai Lung heading to the village to seek his revenge, Po and Master Shifu must overcome their issues and find the secrets of the heart of kung fu.

After the movie, tried using the WiFi feature of my new mobile phone. Was able to access the internet! Yes! Then, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at Super Bowl.

Birthday Treat

Two of my friends treated us for lunch at Mann Yann as their birthday treat. We ate at their new branch in front of The Landmark at Ayala Center.

Since they are already working for another company, there were lots of chika and commentaries. But one thing is sure, we had our fill.

While logging out to go home, heard the guard on our floor talking with somebody on the phone informing him/her that one of the messengers of our company was killed. The news is already on the radio. It seems the messenger is carrying a duffle bag and it contains cash and checks. Two motorcycle-riding men simply shot him to death and took the stash from him. Tsk! Tsk! They should have just taken the loot and not kill the hard-working messenger...

Framed Shots: Portrait of a Filipino

For this month's meeting, Mr. Chie Zamora would be teaching us how to capture fast moving objects.

The idea is to use trigger (be it sound or contact) for the flash to turn on. The place should be dark, the camera set to the smallest opening and in "bulb". Once the light flashes, you can release the shutter. Because of the "bulb" setting, one must use a tripod. (The image above is hand-held with the image stabilization on and breathe is held until the shutter is released... hehehe!)

Today is also the judging for the "Portrait of a Filipino" theme. Finally! One of my two entries was chosen to be the top 16 for our club. (Will post the image on a later date.)

Before proceeding home, decided to go to Ayala Center to buy an antenna gain for our Linksys Wireless Broadband Router. Bought one at CompLink. Then, picked up my Nokia N90 from Nokia Care. My unit just needs cleaning!!!
