Marian Pilgrimage Of Faith And Heritage In Pangasinan
Today, I would be joining the Marian Pilgrimage arranged by
Green Faith Travels. Assembly time is 3:30AM. Our pilgrimage bus would be leaving at 4AM. We will have our breakfast onboard.
Picked some of the pilgrims at Balintawak and proceeded on our way. We then prayed the
Pilgrim's Prayer.
Loving Father, be our Guide and Companion as we embark on this pilgrimage.
May we delight in everyone we shall meet and recognize Your presence even in our encounter with people who may at first be strangers to us.
Bless our church visists so that on Your Holy Ground we may be able to hear Your voice speaking to us in the silence of our heart.
We seek Your mercy in this journey of renewing our faith.
Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we will have a burning instinct only for You. Remove all the obstacles that block the flow of Your grace in our life.
Heal us from our brokenness and forgive our sins.
On this Marian pilgrimage, grant us the grace from our Blessed Mother and fill us with her virtues because she is the delight of Your heart.
May there be serenity and calm within us despite disappointments and moments of inconvenience. No matter what comes our way, help us to carry on with a joyful heart.
We trust in Your loving providence and protection to bring us safely to our destinations without undue disturbance of worry.
All these we ask in the might name of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag, pray for us.
St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
We also prayed the three mysteries of the rosary on the bus. We would be praying the Glorious Mystery at the
Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag.
Titular: Our Lady of the holy Rosary (Nuestra Senora de Manaoag), October 7
Fiesta: Every First Sunday of October and Every Third Wednesday of Easter
The first church in the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan to be granted the title "Special Bond of Spiritual Affinity" with the Papal Basilica, St. Mary Major in Rome on April 20, 2011.
Recognizing the many "miracles and extraordinary events" that took place over centuries, the Shrine was elevated to a Basilica on July 22, 2011. It is now called the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag.
Center of Marian devotion for Pangansinenses as she is considered the patroness of the sick, the helpless and the needy.
The Augustinians introduced the early Christian mission to Manaoag in 1600, placing it under the patronage of Santa Monica.
The mission was turned over to the Dominicans in 1605, who dedicated the church to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. They were given perpetual spiritual charge of Manaoag by decree of the Holy See in 1926.
Folk tradition has it that the Blessed Mother holding a child on the left and a rosary on her right was mounted on the branch of a tree showed herself to a farmer and gave him the message on where she wanted her church to be located. The name of the place is thus said to derive from the Pangasinan word "mantaoag" ("to call").
The locals call Our Lady "Inay puso mi" ("Our mother heart") or plainly called Apo Baket.
The ivory image of Our Lady enshrined in the high altar of the Church was brought to the country by Padre Juan de San Jacinto in the early 17th century. It is said to possess miraculous powers.
April 21, 1926 marked the Canonical Coronation of the image. The Church through the Holy See officially recognized and proclaimed that the Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag had granted favors and blessings through her devotees through the centuries.
The murals (wall paintings) in the shrine, which depicts four famous miracles attributed to Our Lady, were painted by Francisco C. Zarate (1902-1977) as his token of love and devotion to Our Lady. Starting his works in 1951 and finishing them in 1960, the artist also retouched them in 1976.
Places to visit inside the Shrine: blessing area, religious store, Rosary garden, museum, Dominican Novitiate, Paschal Chapel, Veneration, Pilgrim Center and Way of the Cross.
We then proceeded to
Matutina's for lunch. Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is said to like this restaurant, as can be witnessed by the photos in the restaurant.
Our next stop is the
Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist at Dagupan City.
Titular: Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist, December 7
The second church in the Archdiocese to be granted the title "Special Bond of Spiritual Affinity" with the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls on February 15, 2012.
Founded in 1614, it was the first Catholic Church of Dagupan.
On May 31, 1964, the cornerstone of the Cathedral was laid at the back of the old church presided over by Archbishop Mariano Madriaga as a replacement to the old church damaged by past earthquakes.
Cathedral was inaugurated by Archbishop Limon the feast of Saint John in 1974.
Archbishop Oscar Cruz initiated the restoration of the old Dagupan church in 1995, which is now known as the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan.
Our third church is the
Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul at Calasiao.
Titular: Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles, June 29
The Church of San Pedro Y San Pable de Calasiao is one of only 36 colonial churches declared a "National Cultural Treasure" by the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
The second oldest church in Pangasinan established as a Vicariate by the Dominican Missionaries in 1588 under the patronage of St. Dominic.
"Calasiao" derived from "Calasian" means a place of lightning or "Lugar de Rayos" (place of Rays).
Parish was placed under the patronage of San Pablo in 1596.
In 1621, the church was renamed San Pedro Y San Pablo De Calasiao after it was enlarged with Fr. Juan Maldonado de San Pedro Martin as the first parish priest.
The original church was destroyed by earthquake and burned in 1736 during the Palaris Revolt.
With Lingayen destroyed during World War II, Calasiao had the singular privilege of temporarily housing the Archbishop's palace and cathedral, lasting three years.
The original antiquity of the church was restored after the July 16, 1990 earthquake through the efforts of Msgr. Luis B. Ungson.
The convent lobby of the church features a glimpse of the life and creedal expressions of the Parishioners.
Now undergoing repair and renovation, the Baroque-style church was richest in ornaments among churches in Pangasinan in the late 19th century.
Structure and ornaments are well-preserved, including its centuries-old artifacts, painted ceilings, its original retablo and convent.
Just across is the
Shrine of Senor Divino Tesoro (Divine Treasure).
Titular: Divine Image of Our Lord Jesus Crucified
Feast: May 2-3
The Senor Divino Tesoro or the "Most Divine Image of Our Lord Jesus Crucified" is venerated by the faithful who have received or are seeking His divine help and blessings.
The people of Calasiao hold close to their hearts the devotion to Senor Divino Tesoro, the second most popular image frequented by devotees in Pangasinan, next to Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag.
Original venerable image was owned by Don Francisco Paramio, a childless widower, and served as his companion in life for 10 years.
The Municipal Hall was the abode of Senor Divino Tesoro for 171 years, until it was transferred to its present shrine.
Known miracles: saved housed from fire, Municipal Hall survived air bombings in 1945 and the earthquake of July 16, 1990. The construction of the old shrine started uring the early part of Martial Law.
On September 15, 2008, a fire razed to the ground the municipal building of Calasiao and the Shrine together with the revered image.
On April 3, 2009, the image was transferred to the newly built shrine.
With government support, the Senor Divino Tesoro Association under the presidency of Mrs. Lourdes Fernandez implemented massive improvements and general renovation of the chapel, achieving beauty and splendor that befit a national shrine. Windows depict the 14 Stations of the Cross made of stained-glass.
We were given a framed image of Senor Divino Tesoro as a gift.
Since Calasiao is noted for its
puto, we also bought
puto as
pasalubong.
We arrived at Makati around 11PM.
Looper
My movie for the week is
Looper, an action, sci-fi, thriller wherein mob executes its victims by sending them back thirty years in the past where an assassin, called Looper, is waiting. The hitch: they may eventually kill themselves.
The twists and the what-ifs make the movie refreshing. Like!
Then, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at
Italianni's.
Sinister
Hair-pampering day.
My movie weekend is
Sinister, a horror, thriller movie about a true crime novelist who is struggling to come up with another big story. Discovering a box of home videos showing other families being brutally murdered, his investigation leads him to a supernatural entity. Unlike other horror movies,
Sinister focuses on the main character, using this to build-up the story of a man's pursuit of former glory that leads him to destruction. Like!
Worldwide Photowalk
This would be the fourth time I am attending Scott Kelby's
Worldwide Photowalk, three times led by the
Tilak Hettige. Picked-up Tilak at his house.
Meet-up is at the
University of the Philippines Oblation by 8AM. Tilak would be briefing the photowalkers. After the walk, we would be having a "bonding time" at the
Chocolate Kiss Cafe.
Gave a pin button as souvenir for the attendees (designed by my niece) with the message "I am a Photo Walker". There were 38 photographers who were able to make it.
What really capped-off the photo walk is the bonding after the walk as we expand our photographer friends.
Dropped off Tilak at his house, cleaned up the list of the photo walkers so that those wait listed who were able to join would be able to submit their entry. Went to
SM Mall of Asia to buy the dog food and soap for Tsubasa then dropped my gear at the house.
Proceeded to
Glorietta to attend the anticipated Mass. Then, treat my friends at
Chili's.
Went home then proceeded to
Rizal Funeral Homes to attend the wake of my aunt.
Birthday!
Would be treating some friends at
a Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante for lunch.
Before proceeding home, dropped by
Greenbelt Chapel to thank Him for all the blessing He generously showered.
Just rested upon reaching home and proceeded to
Emerald Garden Restaurant to buy food for birthday treat at home with family and friends.
Birthday Treat at Cabalen
I would be treating my team for lunch at
Cabalen. It's an eat-all-you-can buffet.
After the lunch, proceeded home and prepared the logistics for the
Worldwide Photowalk to be held on Saturday.
Framed Shots: Travel
Since the month's birthday celebrants are supposed to bring food in our camera club's meeting, ordered
pancit malabon from
Amber's and have it delivered at our house.
Brought it to the meeting. There really is nothing planned except for the judging of the photos, thus, left the meeting earlier after having our merienda.
Was dropped off at
Glorietta and bought a rice cooker for the house using my Sodexho
Of All The Things
Movie weekend.
Usually I am on leave for the whole week during my birthday week. Not again this year.
Have my entry for "Travel" printed then proceeded to
Cabalen to make reservation for Monday. Then, proceeded to watch
Of All The Things.
The lead stars used to have "chemistry", and the movie tried to make use of it. At least, they did not make them cutey-cutey.
After, attended the anticipated Mass and had dinner at
Luk Yuen.
